Job title: Project Based STEM Teacher (PBST)
About the Role The Project Based STEM Teacher (PBST) will lead middle- or high-school math and/or science instruction as part of the Reach for the Stars STEM Academy (RFTSSA) on the Stockton Campus for Summer 2026. Working under the direct supervision of the School of Engineering Assistant Dean for Student Success and in collaboration with the Project-based Coordinator and Lead Teacher, the PBST helps implement the collaborative program with Stockton Unified School District to deliver in-person STEM enrichment.
What You'll Do
- Design all academy instructional and project-based learning experiences aligned to the Common Core Content State Standards, use effective instructional strategies, and implement assessment-driven instruction.
- Design, develop, deliver, and manage STEM learning experiences; model and deliver student-centered instruction in collaboration with the Lead Teacher, Project-Based STEM Coordinator, other teachers, and a Teaching Assistant.
- Teach one of the following core topic tracks for specified cohorts: Logic and Engineering (up to 25 students in 7th grade); Physics and Algebraic Structures (up to 20 in 8th); Problem Solving and Statistics (up to 20 in 9th); Water and Computer Science (up to 20 in 10th); Aeronautics (up to 20 in 11th); or job training and mentoring skills (up to 20 in 11th).
- Present instruction using a project-based delivery model, with pre/post-tests, guest speakers, team projects, class presentations, library research, field trips, special events, homework, and skill assessments.
- Participate in staff orientation, Minors on Campus Training, staff meetings, and other program preparation activities.
- Collaborate with academy staff to ensure a cohesive daily curriculum and support student success.
- Be present for the opening ceremony (June 1) and closing ceremony (June 27); be available for PD and setup the week prior to the academy.
What We're Looking For
- Experience teaching middle or high school STEM subjects, with ability to teach one of the designated topic tracks.
- Demonstrated ability to design and deliver project-based learning experiences and to align instruction with the Common Core Content State Standards.
- Strong collaborative skills to work with teachers, staff, and teaching assistants; ability to use technology to enhance instruction.
- Ability to develop critical thinking, abstract reasoning, problem-solving, and the application of mathematics across STEM disciplines.
- Commitment to hands-on, integrated STEM learning and to encouraging students to pursue STEM careers.
- Willingness to participate in orientation and campus trainings (e.g., Minors on Campus), staff meetings, and program-related activities.
