Job title: Professor (Tenure-Track) - English, Journalism, and Media Communications

About the Role A full-time, tenure-track Professor position in the Department of English, Journalism, and Media Communications at Stillman College. The successful candidate may also be considered for appointment as Chair of the Department. The role involves teaching a range of English courses, research, service, and potential department leadership.

What You'll Do

  • Teach freshman and advanced composition, as well as research and technical writing, and additional upper-level English courses relevant to the candidate’s background.
  • Teach American and African American courses as required for Secondary Teaching Certification.
  • Incorporate active student learning and appropriate technology in the classroom.
  • Advise and mentor student majors in English, journalism, and/or media communications.
  • Engage in service activities relevant to the field, department, division, and college missions.
  • Pursue/provide professional development (grant writing, conference presentations, workshops).
  • If appointed as Department Chair, provide academic and administrative leadership including faculty mentorship, scheduling, assessment oversight, curriculum development, and support for departmental initiatives.

What We're Looking For

  • Ph.D. in English with a concentration in composition and rhetoric (ABD considered if all degree requirements are completed by time of appointment).
  • Evidence of successful college/university traditional and online instruction.
  • Evidence of successful research development (conference presentations, publications, memberships, etc.).
  • Experience teaching English composition, technical writing, advanced composition, professional writing, and research writing; ability to teach American and African American courses.
  • Ability to incorporate active learning and technology in instruction.
  • Strong advising/mentoring abilities and commitment to student success.
  • Willingness to engage in service and ongoing professional development.

Nice to Have

  • Experience or potential to serve as Department Chair with responsibilities including faculty mentorship, scheduling, assessment oversight, curriculum development, and support for departmental initiatives.
