About this role
Professor of United States History - Tenure Track
The Department of History at Thiel College invites applications for a tenure-track position in United States History. Teaching responsibilities will include American surveys and upper-division courses in United States History. Areas of specialization are open, but preference will be given to candidates whose teaching and professional interests support the preparation of future history educators and the use of technology to enhance history instruction, historical research, and student learning.
Candidates should have an interest in joining an undergraduate department where teaching in a small classroom environment is emphasized. Expectations include a 4/4 teaching load, developing engaging pedagogy, openness to interdisciplinary courses, advising, and active involvement in the campus community. Candidates must have a Doctorate in History; candidates currently completing doctoral work will also be considered.
A dedicated passion for helping students reach their full potential in a supportive and inclusive, diverse environment is essential to this position. Responsibilities include teaching, advising, student supervision, and professional development. While Thiel College gives highest priority to teaching effectiveness, faculty are expected to remain current in the field through professional development opportunities such as attendance at related conferences, research, or other scholarly activities. A comprehensive employee benefit package, including research support and a sabbatical program, is provided.
Thiel College welcomes applications from all qualified candidates. Please note, however, that we are unable to provide employment visa sponsorship (e.g., H-1B) for this position. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.
Applicants should:
- Submit a letter of interest, curriculum vitae and list of references (all these materials should be attached in a single PDF document using candidate’s name as the document title) by clicking here.
- Additional required materials, including transcripts, sample syllabi for both a survey and an upper-division U.S. history course, and summaries of recent teaching evaluations, if available, should be sent in PDF format to [email protected] (preferred option). These items may also be mailed to Jennifer Clark, Director of Human Resources, Thiel College.
Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
Thiel College is committed to attracting culturally and professionally diverse faculty and staff who engage our students by providing a rich and fulfilling curricular and co-curricular experience.
