Job title: Professional Development Specialist II
About the Role The Professional Development Specialist II (PDSII) is a nursing leadership role focused on advancing the clinical skills and knowledge of nursing staff through curriculum design, implementation, and evaluation. The position collaborates with the Clinical Practice Specialists (CPS), Professional Development Specialist I, and other multidisciplinary team members, and applies competencies described by the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) and ANPD.
What You'll Do
- Demonstrate oncology clinical practice expertise by participating in patient care, identifying opportunities for improvement, assessing staff performance, and facilitating implementation of new practices.
- Support nurses in symptom management and education for patients and families.
- Lead education efforts: assessment of learning needs, development of curricula and competency models, simulation, orientation, and coordination of nursing student placements.
- Collaborate across units to influence nursing practices and improve care outcomes; serve as nurse planner for ANCC Accredited Provider Unit.
- Coordinate education, training, and competency assessment activities within the clinical area; participate in professional activities to promote growth of self and others; design and implement curricula and workshops using diverse educational methods.
- Maintain expertise in the ADNP practice model, competency models, and simulation standards; educate staff on policies and procedures to support evidence-based guidelines.
- Contribute to a leadership environment that fosters professional development and evidence-based practice across Nursing and Patient Care Services.
What We're Looking For
- Expertise in oncology clinical practice with the ability to identify opportunities for improvement and support evidence-based practice.
- Demonstrated leadership in coordinating education, training, and competency assessment within a clinical area.
- Experience designing competency models, competency-focused curricula, and learning assessments.
- Ability to monitor compliance with mandatory staff education and coordinate unit-based orientation; experience coordinating nursing student placements.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills to work with content experts, unit leadership, and cross-disciplinary teams.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $129,800.00 - $148,400.00 per year (USD)
- Working arrangement: onsite in Boston with occasional remote work
