About this role
Zelh is a fast-growing, passionate outsourcing company.
Our mission is to be the most reliable company by offering and maintaining consistently high-quality services.
We achieve this mission by fostering long-term relationships with customers, employees, and vendors. Personal attention, timely communication, and respect for all people are the foundation of our business philosophy!
At this point, Zelh is looking for a Product Formulator to join our team.
The Product Formulator & Quoter will be responsible for developing preliminary product formulas, preparing accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs), and creating quote packages for customer projects in the dietary supplement and nutraceutical industry. This role requires a strong understanding of ingredient science, potency levels, biological activity, and overage calculations to ensure that proposed formulas meet customer requirements and applicable labeling standards.
The successful candidate will work closely with Product Development, Sourcing, Procurement, and Sales teams to ensure formula accuracy, cost transparency, and a smooth transition from initial quoting to final product specifications. As the role develops, the individual will also review and approve Finished Product Specifications (FPS) to ensure consistency between the original quote and the finalized product.
Duties and Responsibilities
-
Product Formulation & Technical Analysis: Interpret customer briefs, target formulas, and label claims to develop technically accurate ingredient lists and preliminary formulas. Determine appropriate ingredient forms, potency levels, biological activity values, and extract standardization requirements.
-
Ingredient Calculations & Stability: Calculate ingredient overages to account for manufacturing losses, moisture, and shelf-life stability. Identify incompatible ingredients, potential formulation risks, and gaps in claim substantiation.
-
BOM Development & Costing: Build detailed preliminary Bills of Materials (BOMs) for powders, capsules, and other finished product formats, including raw material specifications, part numbers, quantities, yields, unit costs, and estimated packaging components.
-
Supplement & Nutrition Facts Panels: Prepare preliminary Supplement Facts Panels (SFP) and Nutrition Facts Panels (NFP), ensuring accurate ingredient declarations, serving sizes, percentage Daily Values, and required non-ingredient statements.
-
Quote & Data Management: Enter and maintain accurate quote information in ERP and project management systems, including Deacom and Odoo. Ensure data accuracy for costs, suppliers, minimum order quantities (MOQs), and raw material sourcing notes.
-
Sourcing & Procurement Coordination: Collaborate with Sourcing and Procurement teams on ingredient requests for quotations (RFQs), providing project details, estimated volumes, and sample requirements.
-
Finished Product Specification Review: Compare finalized Finished Product Specifications against the original quote to verify formula integrity, ingredient levels, overage calculations, BOM accuracy, and label compliance.
-
Quality Control & Discrepancy Resolution: Document discrepancies between original quotes and finalized specifications, escalating unresolved issues to the Product Development Manager before approval.
-
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Product Development, Sales, Sourcing, and Procurement teams to communicate technical assumptions, ingredient availability, cost drivers, and project requirements.
-
Process Improvement & Documentation: Update legacy quote sheets, identify data gaps, maintain accurate formulation records, and support continuous improvements throughout the quote-to-order process.
Education & Experience
-
Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, or a related scientific field.

Strong knowledge of supplement ingredient science, including potency and activity declarations, overage calculations, extract standardization, and bioavailability considerations.
-
Hands-on experience preparing detailed Bills of Materials (BOMs), including raw material specifications, quantities, yields, and cost calculations.
-
Experience with ERP systems and project management tools; knowledge of Deacom and Odoo is an advantage.
-
Experience working with or alongside a Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) is preferred.
