The Role

Job Description

SAP is evolving its commerce portfolio to deliver modern, intelligent, and associated commerce experiences across channels.

We are seeking a skilled and entrepreneurial Senior Product Manager – Direct-to-Consumer (D2C) Commerce to help shape the next generation of SAP's commerce capabilities.

In SAP Order Management, you will define the product strategy. You will drive innovation and deliver new capabilities. These will help businesses connect directly with consumers. You will also make sure that commerce experiences work well with enterprise processes.

You will work closely with Engineering, Architecture, UX, customers, and other Product Management teams to deliver scalable, cloud-native, API-first solutions that address real customer challenges.

This role requires a combination of commercial awareness, technical curiosity, strategic thinking, and hands-on product management.

What you'll build

You'll lead product strategy, guide discovery and validation cycles, and define multi-quarter roadmaps that maintain alignment across engineering, design, marketing, and partner teams. Evaluating product performance, influencing organizational decision making, and steering complex initiatives from conception to launch are all within scope. You'll mentor other product managers, establish frameworks for how the team approaches discovery and experimentation, and be accountable for the outcomes your product area delivers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Product Strategy and Ownership

  • Define and communicate the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for D2C commerce capabilities within SAP Order Management.

  • Identify market opportunities, customer needs, and emerging trends that inform product direction.

  • Translate business objectives and customer challenges into clear product requirements and priorities.

  • Own product decisions throughout the lifecycle, from discovery and development through launch, adoption, and continuous improvement.

  • Balance innovation, customer commitments, technical investments, and time to market.

  • Establish measurable success criteria that reflect customer value, product adoption, and business outcomes.

  • Product Discovery and Delivery

  • Engage directly with customers, partners, and internal stakeholders to identify problems, validate opportunities, and refine product direction.

  • Collaborate with Engineering and UX to define user experiences, product requirements, and acceptance criteria.

  • Maintain a prioritized product backlog aligned with strategic objectives and customer needs.

  • Work iteratively with Engineering teams to deliver high-quality capabilities and incorporate feedback.

  • Ensure that solutions meet company standards. Solutions should be scalable, reliable, secure, and extensible.

  • Use product analytics, customer feedback, and market insights to guide continuous improvement.

  • Composable and Intelligent Commerce

  • Champion modern, cloud-native, API-first approaches to enterprise commerce.

  • Identify opportunities to create reusable and extensible commerce capabilities that support multiple business models and channels.

  • Collaborate across SAP's commerce and enterprise application portfolio to enable seamless end-to-end business processes.

  • Explore new technologies, including artificial intelligence, automation, and agentic commerce. The goal is to enhance customer experiences. It also aims to make operations more capable.

  • Work with Engineering and Architecture to ensure product capabilities are designed for enterprise scale, interoperability, and long-term evolution.

  • Balance architectural flexibility with simplicity, performance, and customer value.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Engineering management to align product priorities, delivery plans, and technical investments.

  • Collaborate with other Product Management teams to deliver consistent and related commerce experiences.

  • Work with UX teams to create intuitive experiences for business users, developers, and integration partners.

  • Support Product Marketing, Sales, and Solution Management. This involves helping with product positioning. You will engage with customers, demonstrate products, and communicate the plan.

  • Engage with strategic customers and partners to validate product direction and accelerate adoption.

  • Communicate decisions, priorities, risks, and progress clearly across stakeholders.

  • Experience and Qualifications

  • You have deep expertise in defining product strategy. You lead initiatives across different teams. You shape complex requirements. You also mentor others in product practices that focus on outcomes. Balancing user needs, business goals, and technical feasibility is something you do as a matter of course, not something that requires escalation. Your experience spans the full product lifecycle, from market research and competitive analysis through roadmap definition, launch coordination, and post-launch measurement. You've mentored other PMs and your approach to product decisions is grounded, data-backed, and communicable.

  • Required Qualifications

  • Significant experience in software Product Management, preferably within enterprise SaaS, digital commerce, or retail technology.

  • Demonstrated experience owning product capabilities from initial discovery through delivery and adoption.

  • Robust knowledge of D2C business models, digital commerce, and omnichannel customer experiences.

  • Experience translating customer and business requirements into actionable product strategies and roadmaps.

  • Robust technical awareness of modern SaaS platforms, APIs, and cloud-native architectures.

  • Experience working closely with Agile software engineering teams.

  • Ability to make informed product decisions using customer insights, market research, and business metrics.

  • You should have great communication and analytical skills. You also need solid stakeholder management skills.

  • You should be able to question assumptions. You need to deal with uncertainty. You must guide decisions across various parts of the organization.

  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with SAP Commerce Cloud, SAP Order Management, or comparable enterprise commerce platforms.

  • Understanding of composable commerce and MACH architecture principles.

  • Familiarity with order management, pricing, promotions, customer loyalty, payments, and fulfillment processes.

  • Experience with SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP), Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.

  • Understanding of event-driven architectures, REST APIs, and distributed systems.

  • Exposure to AI-enabled commerce, intelligent automation, or agent-based applications.

  • Experience delivering enterprise products across multiple geographies and industries.

  • Tools and Ways of Working

  • You will use modern product management practices and tools to drive clarity, collaboration, and measurable outcomes.

You should be comfortable with:

  • Product Discovery involves several steps. These steps include customer interviews. They also include market research, opportunity assessment, prototyping, and hypothesis validation.

  • Product Planning includes creating product roadmaps. It also involves setting OKRs. Additionally, it uses prioritization frameworks and focuses on outcome-based planning.

  • Agile Delivery: Scrum, iterative development, backlog management, and continuous improvement.

  • Product Analytics: Product adoption, customer behavior, business performance, and operational metrics.

  • Collaboration: Jira, Confluence, Figma, and modern documentation and collaboration tools.

  • Technical Collaboration includes several areas. These are APIs, enterprise integrations, cloud services, and event-driven architectures.

  • AI-Assisted Working: Using AI tools to accelerate product discovery, analysis, requirements development, and communication.

  • What Success Looks Like

  • Success is measured by customer and business outcomes, not simply the number of features delivered.

You will be successful when:

  • D2C commerce capabilities have a clear product direction and blueprint aligned with SAP's broader strategy.

  • Product investments address validated customer needs and meaningful market opportunities.

  • Customers and partners can adopt and integrate capabilities proficiently.

  • Product decisions are informed by measurable business outcomes and customer feedback.

  • Engineering teams have clear priorities and the context needed to execute successfully.
