Responsibilities

  • Advanced product development, contact and technical exchange with OEM’s product development and management.

  • Work with customers to package awarded product commodity within their environment. Interface with other mating components for clearance and attachment features.

  • Experienced in leading multiple projects and designs for global platforms.

  • Seek manufacturing feasibility from our Corporate Process Development team for stamping, welding and assembly as the product matures towards production tooling release.

  • Performs Design Failure Mode Analysis.

  • Conducts product design and development reviews with internal and external stakeholders

  • Review and understand the customer “Statement of Requirements”.

  • Actively engaged with Product Manages in regards to Benchmarking and Patent Reviews.

  • Contribute to a “Lessons Learned” database.

  • Identifies and document product special characteristics.

  • Facilitates presentations of product design and development outputs to customers.

  • Provides input to design and development verification and validation processes.

  • Maintains product information in Product Lifecycle Management database.

  • Any other reasonable request made by management.

  • Contributes to a safe, clean and comfortable work environment that complements the Occupational Health and Safety Act by ensuring the principles of the 5S discipline (simplify, separate, sanitize, standardize and support) are supported and adhered to.

  • Ensures he/she is in full compliance with the laws of Ontario and/or any other province or state, while representing KIRCHHOFF Automotive or during the use of any KIRCHHOFF Automotive provided equipment.

  • Judgement – exercises judgement re:

  • Effectively prioritize projects and tasks based on customer (external/internal) requirements.

  • Accountability – is accountable in areas of:

  • Product Design and Development processes,

  • Creating Mass Reporting and updated as per management request

  • Incoming/outgoing math data processing,

  • Compliance with IATF 16949 Product Design and Development procedures,

  • Compliance with IATF 16949 Document and Data Control procedures.

  • Contacts – establishes/maintains relationships:

  • Customers, i.e. GM, Ford, Honda, Stellantis, VW/Audi, BMW.

  • Research & Development, Sales & Marketing, Product Procurement, Program Management, CME, Process Development, Quality Engineering, etc.

  • Vendors/Suppliers, i.e. prototype shops, tool shops, checking fixture shops, automation suppliers, etc.

  • Your Profile

  • Work Experience

  • 8-10 years work related experience, product design in automotive industry related to chassis and suspension systems

  • Thorough knowledge of CAD product design techniques and drafting

  • Thorough knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)

  • Sound understanding of IATF 16949 and ISO 14001 requirements

Skills

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Effective analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to effectively present new concepts/ideas
  • Ability to understand and interpret CAE results
  • Subject Matter Expert in developing chassis and suspension systems
  • Thorough understanding of fatigue and durability failure modes related to chassis and suspension systems
  • Ability to perform DFMEA
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and changing priorities
  • CAD skills, CATIA V5 / Siemens NX
  • Ability to process Math Data through the use of CATIA V5 or Siemens team center
  • Computer skills, i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint

Education

  • University degree or college diploma in Mechanical Engineering
