Job title: Product Development Engineer I
About the Role Product Development Engineer I stationed in Belagavi, India as part of Mattel's global manufacturing footprint expansion. You will support product engineering pilots, debugging and production support in collaboration with contract manufacturers, and assist with new product introduction development activities. This is a high-visibility role offering autonomy and opportunities to influence the design-to-production process.
What You'll Do
- Assist in the development, design and translation of product concepts to defined products/toys, including project management and resolving technical issues.
- Effectively partner with upfront development teams to launch new or resourced products in OEM plants.
- Drive debug, pilot and troubleshooting to ensure products produced meet quality, cost and schedule.
- Drive process control and production line efficiency, minimize scrap rate and maintain quality.
- Identify value improvement and cost saving opportunities.
- Apply manufacturing knowledge in plastics, assembly techniques, molding processes, and electronics integration to deliver robust and scalable solutions.
- Participate in value engineering and quality assurance initiatives, ensuring products meet brand objectives, safety regulations, and consumer expectations.
- Drive projects to meet business objectives on schedule.
What We're Looking For
- BA/BS in Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, or related) preferred, or equivalent experience.
- Relevant experience in Product Engineering/Development or related field in toys or consumer products is a plus.
- Proficient written English and ability to communicate with a global development team.
- General understanding of engineering principles, product lifecycle, and quality assurance.
- Knowledge of plastic materials, molding, tooling, decoration, electronics, and assembly processes.
- CAD proficiency (SolidWorks, Creo) and familiarity with simulation tools is preferred.
- Analytical and critical thinking mindset; rudimentary understanding of Finite Element Analysis.
- Ability to positively interact with diverse groups (Design, Marketing, Engineering, Manufacturing, Finance, Planning, etc.).
- Effective listening, influencing and problem-solving capabilities.
- Good organization and multi-tasking skills.
- Travel as needed (International & Regional).
Nice to Have
- Experience in toys or consumer products is a plus.
- Willingness to travel internationally and regionally as needed.
