Description

  • Team

  • Productivity team

  • Productivity(生産性) teamは、人員計画から入荷・仕分け・積み込み・出発までの倉庫内オペレーションの一連の工程を対象に、TPH(Throughput per Hour:1時間当たりの処理量を示す生産性指標)の改善をリードするプロセス改善のスペシャリストです。

  • PI team

  • Lean excellence team

  • 【Career path】

  • At Amazon, we actively incorporate the latest AI and generative AI tools into our daily work. These tools accelerate the speed of our decision-making and allow us to focus on the judgments and discussions that truly matter. Because a culture of continuous learning is embedded at Amazon, resources are available for you to deepen your knowledge of AI at your own pace.

  • The Amazon Customer Excellence System (ACES) team is hiring a Process Improvement Manager to drive process improvement across our operations end to end, from first mile through last mile.

  • Role and responsibilities

  • The ACES team improves the safety, quality, and productivity of in-building operations end to end, from first mile sites such as fulfillment centers and sort centers through last mile sites such as delivery stations, building the mechanisms that ensure customers receive their orders when they need them and thereby elevating the customer experience. To raise the efficiency of in-building operations, we drive the introduction of new systems and mechanisms as well as improvement projects. We adapt systems and mechanisms newly deployed elsewhere in Amazon's global network to sites in Japan, lead their rollout, and then validate and refine them through both data analysis and on-site observation. With an end-to-end understanding of in-building operations, we identify the items that raise safety, quality, and productivity and drive improvement. We quantify waste from operational data and on-site observation, set priorities, and run improvement cycles. We standardize solutions with scalability in mind so they can be applied at every site, and scale them across the network. You will deliver this work in partnership with site leaders and stakeholders across the business.

  • We are looking for candidates who, in any industry, have taken the initiative to solve business process problems themselves. Specifically, experience not only analyzing data extracted from systems to identify problems, but also driving countermeasures and improvements based on facts gathered on site, leading the work while engaging many stakeholders. Our team includes members from manufacturing, consulting, and other backgrounds in addition to logistics. Approximately half of your working days will involve on-site work, including business travel.

  • Team introduction

  • The ACES team is a group of specialists in process design and improvement. We use data analysis and Lean methods to identify the root causes of problems and deliver fundamental improvement by changing the design of the process itself. Our scope extends beyond front-line task improvement to every factor that drives the performance of in-building operations, including inbound planning, labor planning, shift design, and associate deployment. Through best-practice sharing across sites and standardization, we support the continuous development of the entire network.

  • A defining characteristic of ACES is that we do not confine ourselves to our own remit. To ensure Amazon's business and operations improve continuously from first mile through last mile, we engage proactively with challenges across the business, building cross-functional mechanisms to drive improvement. Where the situation or business need calls for it, we lead projects ourselves even when another organization is the nominal owner, in order to accelerate problem solving.

  • The team consists of three sub-teams with distinct roles:

  • Productivity team

  • The Productivity team leads improvement of TPH (Throughput per Hour, the productivity metric for units processed per hour) across the end-to-end in-building flow, from labor planning through inbound, sortation, loading, and dispatch. Through data analysis and on-site observation, the team quantitatively identifies the key levers and processes that drive productivity and delivers durable improvement. It supports sites whose performance is lagging, extracts best practices from top-performing sites and scales them across the network, and achieves fundamental improvement by changing the mechanism of the process itself. Drawing on deep process knowledge, the team also develops and provides the deep-dive tools operations teams use for day-to-day improvement, dynamically reprioritizing toward the areas with the largest impact and moving with a strong bias for action.

  • PI team

  • The PI (Process Improvement) team is a group of experts in in-building operational processes who deliver continuous productivity gains and sustainable growth across the Japan Operations network. Lead or support cross-functional initiatives across First Mile to Last Mile, provide deep process knowledge, quantitative evaluation using Lean methods, and drive design and standardization of optimal processes that avoid waste. Even for initiatives led by other departments, assess holistically and, when needed, take the lead to adjust course and accelerate solving. Provide on-site support to ensure standards take hold and are rolled out across the network. Integrate all initiatives that affect processes, develop short-, mid-, and long-term productivity plans, and work with business leadership to form consensus and create a strategic roadmap for sustainable growth.

  • Lean excellence team

  • The Lean excellence team is a group with knowledge of Lean Six Sigma. They analyze process waste and variance statistically, execute improvement processes using DMAIC, plan and manage network-wide continuous improvement activities, promote DMAIC adoption, and build problem-solving capabilities through Quick Wins. Create and improve a system to evaluate and filter improvement proposals based on impact and difficulty, and drive network deployment. Develop training materials for Lean Practitioners and Six Sigma, support talent development through workshop participation, and organize Kaizen of the Year and awards to foster a culture of continuous improvement.

  • Career path

  • The most attractive aspect of ACES is the opportunity to lead the construction of a new business model in logistics by leveraging Amazon resources at the forefront of digitization overseas (North America, EU), and to have a significant impact on the Japanese market. From identifying issues through data analysis, designing the optimal processes, executing on the ground, and standardizing network-wide deployment, a single person can lead end-to-end in a large logistics network.

  • In addition, ACES boards projects that span across First Mile to Last Mile and across the entire operation network in Japan, not limited to a single site or function. The best solution for a site may not always align with the network-wide optimal solution. The ability to distinguish this gap and make decisions from a global optimization perspective naturally develops.

  • Furthermore, this role offers broad opportunities to contribute to cross-functional projects across First Mile to Last Mile, acquiring business perspective and strategic thinking through project management in addition to operational improvement skills. You will think through the "why" behind actions and mobilize many stakeholders to bring them to fruition, which will prepare you for leadership roles in business or teams in the future.

  • Additionally, in this role you can gain experience collaborating with overseas stakeholders, learning advanced industry trends, diverse thinking, improvement approaches, and building a professional network. Through projects, you will observe warehouse operations and delivery operations with colleagues across Japan, bringing you closer to enhancing customer experience for local customers
