About this role
A Process Controls Engineer is needed on site in Shelbyville, KY to support manufacturing operations and improve efficiency. The role covers a range of processes including CNC milling, forming, robotics, welding, punching, finishing, printing and packaging, with daily engineering support to resolve schedule attainment issues and drive continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Identify and resolve manufacturing process problems
- Lead Continuous Improvement projects and Kaizen activities
- Lead new product launches and CAPEX investments
- Lead new equipment installations and modifications of existing equipment
- Design new equipment, processes and procedures
- Liaise with suppliers, customers, and research & development staff
- Program, troubleshoot, and maintain PLCs, HMIs, robots, and control systems
- Work with a broad range of controls platforms, including legacy systems (such as SLC 500 and RSLogix 500), and communicate with these controllers and specialized hardware
- Proficiency in IEC 61131-3 programming languages, with emphasis on ladder and structured text
- Maintain basic programming capability in languages such as BASIC, C, and/or JAVA
- Update schematics for plant and facility equipment
- Implement and utilize virtual machines to support legacy equipment where IDE software is unavailable on modern operating systems
- Possess working knowledge of MS-DOS, Windows 98SE, Windows NT and XP, etc.
- Work with servo drivers, stepper drives, and other motion control components
- Support the development of other engineers and maintenance staff through robotics training
- Serve as primary reviewer for incoming CAPEX automation projects, including runoffs and launches
- Identify opportunities for automation improvements to meet plant efficiency and productivity goals
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Software, Controls or related field
- 3+ years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering
- Automation and controls experience (robots, vision systems, packaging, etc.)
- Kaizen, Continuous Improvement, TPS, Lean Manufacturing methods
- Familiarity with Quality Management Systems, ISO 9001:2015 or similar
- Willingness to travel occasionally
