Job title: Probation Officer/Probation Officer-Bilingual (Spanish & English)
About the Role Probation Officer/Bilingual (Spanish & English) for the New Jersey Judiciary. This role supports Criminal and Probation Division operations, supervising probation cases and interfacing with judges, court users, and community partners. Hybrid work is available (up to 2 days remote) with on-site obligations in the tri-county vicinage.
What You'll Do
- Annotate calendars and maintain records and files electronically and manually
- Prepare court orders
- Monitor case flow and provide case information to requesters
- Operate technology systems used by the court
- Monitor and enforce conditions of probation and/or court orders (may include drug/urine testing)
- Interview clients and prepare reports for the court
- Analyze case histories
- Conduct field visits (home and jail visitations)
- Identify client’s case management needs and refer to treatment programs or appropriate agencies
- Review documents submitted to the court for compliance with rules
- Conduct investigatory work, including checks of criminal history records and contacting other agencies
- Make recommendations to the court
- Prepare cases for hearings and assemble case files, documents, exhibits for hearings, trials, or meetings
- Establish working relationships with divisions, vicinages, or outside organizations
- Advise judges and management on case issues
- Perform other duties as required
- Regular and predictable physical presence at the worksite is essential
What We're Looking For
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university, including 24 credit hours in behavioral or social sciences; applicants may apply if near graduation and must complete degree by start date if selected; transcript photocopy required at application
- Travel within the tri-county vicinage will be required; position may be reassigned within vicinage; on-site in Salem, Cumberland, and Gloucester counties
- Must be prepared to work evenings and/or Saturdays
- Strong interpersonal, communication, customer service, case management, and technical skills; ability to communicate orally and in writing; able to interact with judges, staff, and the public
- Bilingual in Spanish and English (required)
- Regular and reliable attendance and ability to work in a high-stakes environment with respect for individuals’ liberty
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $55,943.00 to $95,153.11 (Schedule A) or $55,943.00 to $91,346.99 (Schedule B); starting pay at minimum of range for new hires
- Hybrid work schedule with up to 2 days remote; on-site requirement in designated counties
- Travel within tri-county vicinage; potential reassignment within vicinage
