Summary
-
Supervises a caseload of adult misdemeanant offenders placed on probation by Clallam County District Court II. Conducts risk assessments and pre-sentence investigations, monitors compliance with court-ordered conditions, provides counseling and crisis intervention, and makes referrals to treatment and community services. Maintains accurate case records, prepares reports and violation documents, makes recommendations to the Court regarding sanctions and sentencing, and provides court testimony as required. Coordinates with prosecutors, defense attorneys, law enforcement, treatment providers, and community agencies to support offender accountability and rehabilitation. Applies professional judgment and knowledge of criminal justice practices and behavior modification techniques while ensuring that offenders understand their legal rights and probation requirements. May provide technical and functional supervision to support staff and participate in department policy and case management activities.

Typical Duties
-
Supervise caseload of adult misdemeanant offenders placed on probation through courts by applying a standardized risk classification system
-
Apply assessment/reassessment questionnaire to newly referred probationers and probationers who have a new criminal adjudication.
-
Process offenders by advising them of conditions and obtaining signatures on documents including release of information (and other documents); set appointments and review conditions of judgment and sentence; maintain accurate case files; prepare correspondence and reports as required; determine offenders eligibility for community service and make appropriate referrals

Prepare and file probation violation reports for prosecutorial action; recommend sanctions/modifications in order to protect the public/offender or punish/rehabilitate offender; provide court testimony

Provide probation counseling to offenders, regarding compliance with court requirements; assist offenders in developing problem-solving techniques and personal accountability; make appropriate treatment referrals

Consult with treatment providers and coordinate efforts related to program recommendations; arrange and monitor placement of offenders in rehab and/or treatment programs

Monitor offenders for compliance through the use of urinalysis testing, interlock, antabuse, pbt (portable breath test), EHM (electronic home monitoring), community service, and Judicial Information System (JIS)

Consult with prosecutors, defense attorneys, law enforcement and case workers regarding offender compliance with court orders; establish regular contact with defense attorneys and prosecutors

Request warrant/law enforcement response to effect arrest of offenders found to be in violation of their sentence

Conduct and prepare presentence investigations as assigned pursuant to order of court; evaluate information and make sentencing recommendations to court; interview offender and victim; review police reports and criminal history

Intervene in crisis situations; counsel families; communicate with involved community and private agencies; make referrals as required

Audit files to ensure completeness of file and current status

Assure that offenders know and understand their legal rights and assist them to obtain legal representation as necessary

Participate in staff meetings regarding case discussions, approaches and dispositions; provide input on implementation of policies/procedures

Provide technical and functional supervision to assigned support staff

Education, Training, & Experience

Requires knowledge of the field of assignment sufficient to perform thoroughly and accurately the full scope of responsibility as illustrated by examples in the above job description

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Law and Justice, Social Sciences, Psychology or a related field required.
Experience

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Law and Justice, Social Sciences, Psychology or a related field required. Two years professional experience in a criminal justice or counseling setting with experience in adult probation/corrections.

- Over 204 months = 16.67 hours per month
Sick Leave:

Full-time employees accrue sick leave at the rate of 8 hours per month. Eligibility for use of sick leave is established after one month of continuous employment.

Part-time employee's benefit contributions and leave accruals are prorated.
