About the Role We are seeking a Privacy Counsel to support US privacy compliance and global privacy initiatives. As a key member of the Privacy & Data Ethics team within the Office of Ethics and Compliance, you will advise business and legal stakeholders on privacy compliance and risk management to help the company meet its obligations.
What You'll Do
- Serve as a key member of the Privacy & Data Ethics team providing practical, business-aligned privacy advice across U.S. operations, with a focus on enabling responsible data use while managing risk.
- Act as a first-line point of contact for privacy inquiries, triaging requests and determining appropriate response pathways (direct response, PRAs, or escalation).
- Provide timely guidance on day-to-day privacy questions (data collection, use, disclosures, marketing, vendor interactions, individual rights).
- Support privacy risk assessments (PRAs), identify risk triggers, evaluate processing activities, escalate high-risk matters.
- Partner with Privacy Operations and cross-functional teams to ensure intake, assessment, and documentation processes operate effectively.
- Assist in developing and refining standard guidance, templates, and playbooks to scale privacy advice.
- Lead development of practical privacy training and awareness materials for stakeholders.
- Serve as primary privacy advisor on HIPAA-related matters, including advising Benefits on compliant use of health data and supporting program documentation.
- Develop subject-matter familiarity in health data considerations and emerging privacy risks, escalating complex issues as needed.
What We're Looking For
- 8+ years advising multinational organizations on privacy compliance, in technology, healthcare, financial, or digital sectors; strong understanding of U.S. and global privacy regulations.
- IAPP certification (or equivalent) preferred.
- Proficiency with privacy management platforms (OneTrust, BigID, TrustArc, ServiceNow).
- Proven track record of project execution and process development; ability to translate legal requirements into practical guidance.
- Strong legal and business judgment, drafting, analytical, and negotiation skills; ability to advise on HIPAA and health data privacy compliance.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management in a global, matrixed environment.
- Self-starter with strong organization and ability to manage multiple priorities; collaborative, solutions-oriented with bias for action.
- Minimum education: Bachelor's with 8+ years experience, or Master's with 6+ years, or PhD.
Nice to Have
- IAPP certification (preferred)
- Experience advising on HIPAA, health data handling, and related policies and guidance
- Experience with privacy governance programs
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: Bay Area: $146,540.00 - $189,640.00 per year.
