Principal, Senior Cloud Architect

About the Role Slalom’s Cloud team designs and delivers secure, scalable cloud platforms for clients, focusing on AWS and/or Azure. As Principal, Senior Cloud Architect, you’ll lead architecture and delivery, shape strategy into practical outcomes, and work directly with clients and engineering teams to accelerate value through automation and platform thinking. What You'll Do

• Lead the architecture and hands-on shaping of enterprise-scale cloud solutions across AWS and/or Azure, including infrastructure, application platforms, integration, security, and operations.
• Define cloud strategy, target architectures, and implementation roadmaps with stakeholders and delivery teams.
• Design secure, scalable cloud environments (landing zones, networking, identity, governance, observability, controls).
• Lead migration/modernisation (rehosting, replatforming, refactoring) to improve agility, performance, and cost.
• Provide technical oversight, review designs/code, unblock teams, and drive IaC, CI/CD, automation, and platform engineering.
• Establish cloud-native patterns with engineering teams (containers, serverless, managed services, DevOps, reliability).
• Govern architecture to meet security, compliance, resilience, and operational support requirements.
• Facilitate workshops, architecture reviews, and client discussions to align direction and trade-offs.
• Mentor architects, consultants, and engineers to raise capability and quality.
• Support business development through solution shaping and trusted advisory on cloud transformation opportunities. What We're Looking For
• 7+ years of experience in cloud/solution architecture or engineering, with a track record of leading complex transformations.
• Deep experience with AWS and/or Azure in enterprise environments.
• Strong knowledge of cloud migration, modernization, platform engineering, and cloud-native patterns.
• Hands-on IaC and automation (Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar).
• Experience with DevOps practices and CI/CD tooling.
• Strong understanding of cloud security, networking, identity, governance, resilience, and cost optimization.
• Ability to balance strategic architecture with delivery leadership; credibility with senior stakeholders and engineers.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect or Azure Solutions Architect Expert (highly desirable).
• Australian Citizenship and Baseline security clearance required. Nice to Have
