About the Role Silvus is seeking a Principal Research & Development (R&D) Engineer who will report to the Vice President of Research & Development on the R&D team. The successful individual will oversee and participate in the planning, design, implementation, prototyping, and verification of wireless technology projects. This position is based at Silvus Technologies’ headquarters in the heart of West Los Angeles, CA, and is on a hybrid schedule with a minimum of 3 days onsite per week (Mon/Wed/Thu). What You'll Do
- Technical management of Research and Development projects and programs, including overall system design and requirement specification
- Setting and tracking development schedules and tasks
- Hands-on design, simulation, and verification work; overseeing simulation, software, FPGA, and testing efforts
- Customer-facing engagement and technical material preparation when needed
- Reporting to management for strategic planning and assessment
- Participate in R&D business development and capture efforts, including whitepapers and proposals
- Understand current technology and pitch future enhancements and strategies
- Communicate engagement with government and industry via phone, email, or in-person
- Collaborate within the senior R&D team on larger, team-wide projects and establish a comprehensive technology portfolio and pipeline
- Supervisory/Management: supervise a team of engineers, assist in drafting job descriptions and interviewing candidates
- Travel: infrequent travel to support customer interactions, tests, demos, or team meetings at LA headquarters or other locations What We're Looking For
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field (wireless communications, signal processing, networking, RF design, etc.)
- Minimum 10 years of experience in design and development of wireless systems
- At least 5 years of demonstrated technical project leadership (principal investigator, technical program management, etc.)
- Experience across the complete technology development cycle: design to field testing
- U.S. Citizenship required due to clients under U.S. government contracts
- Background check and drug test clearance required Nice to Have
- Proficiency with simulation and prototyping software: C/C++, MATLAB, Python
- Knowledge of RF propagation, channel modeling, and digital communication
- Expertise in wireless ad-hoc mesh networking, MAC, and routing algorithms
- Advanced signal processing (MIMO, OFDM, beam-nulling)
- Awareness of cognitive radio, congested/contested spectrum, and interference mitigation
- RF sensing, signal detection, and classification
- Technical writing, proposal preparation, and technical presentation Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $180,000 - $250,000 per year (USD) with pay transparency
