Job title: Principal Regulatory Engineer
About the Role
This Principal Regulatory Engineer position at Milwaukee Tool is based in our Brookfield, WI corporate headquarters. You will work in a fast-paced cross-functional design team to define regulatory requirements and coordinate testing and evaluation of Milwaukee products to US, Canadian, and international standards.
What You'll Do
- Advise Project Leaders, Product Managers, Design Engineers, and Reliability Engineers on regulatory requirements and tests needed to comply with external regulations, with emphasis on product safety regulatory requirements, and guidance on EMC, Efficiency, and Hazardous Substance Free.
- Liaise with Certification Bodies and Test Labs to obtain Certificates and Test Reports for worldwide product launches; supervise all aspects of product certification (sample prep, testing, reporting, data analysis, submittal).
- Keep current with safety standards (UL, CSA, IEC, etc.) and regulations (UN, IATA, FCC, CP65, RoHS, ErP, DOE, CEC, OSHA); resolve unclear requirements by obtaining interpretations.
- Evaluate information and render opinions on compliance and safety of concepts, designs, or products; conduct design and construction reviews with focus on regulatory compliance and product safety risk mitigation.
- Review test results, troubleshoot with lab technicians, design test fixtures, and resolve technical issues; communicate regulatory matters to product teams; review operator manuals and on-product markings.
- Establish best practices, create tools to increase team efficiency, and mentor junior regulatory engineers and cross-functional teammates.
- Manage and prioritize multiple regulatory projects to align with product launch timelines and business objectives.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical) or technical equivalent; 7+ years of experience in regulatory and product safety activities, preferably with Outdoor Power Equipment, power tools, Lithium-ion batteries, and/or consumer products.
- Strong understanding of safety standards affecting Milwaukee Outdoor Power Equipment, Power Tools or Chargers; familiarity with Hazard Based Analysis; familiarity with OSHA General Industry and Construction regulations.
- Proficiency with general laboratory equipment (oscilloscopes, power supplies, e-loads, data acquisition systems).
- Excellent verbal, written, and organizational skills; ability to travel domestically and internationally.
- Passion for Outdoor Power Equipment and tools of the trade.
