About this role
About the Role As a Principal Process Engineer at ASM, you will lead research, development and optimization of deposition and related unit processes (ALD/PEALD, CVD/Epitaxy/PECVD) for logic, memory, analog, power and MEMS applications. You will design complex experiments, interpret results, and contribute to IP generation and technical publications to advance product teams. What You'll Do
- Lead development and optimization of metal and dielectric film deposition using ALD, PEALD, Epitaxy, and PECVD.
- Design and conduct experiments using DOE/RSM; analyze results to drive decisions.
- Troubleshoot processing equipment and perform hands-on problem solving.
- Provide mentorship to other Process Engineers; contribute to technical problem-solving sessions.
- Document process development, tool operation and maintenance; support customer demonstrations; travel up to 10%.
- Develop methods for integrating metal/oxide films into existing and future device technologies; ensure successful product transfer via demonstrations and training.
- Produce technical papers and contribute to IP creation.
- Supervisory duties over technicians and aides may be assigned, including input into performance evaluations. What We're Looking For
- Master’s or PhD in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, or Physics.
- 7+ years of combined education, research, and work experience with cure, oxidation, ALD, CVD, Epitaxy, PECVD and/or other thin film deposition.
- Materials characterization techniques such as XPS, SIMS, RBS, AFM, XRR, XRD, TEM, SEM and ellipsometry.
- Knowledge of electrical characterization techniques for CMOS devices; application of dielectric and/or metal films for logic and memory structures.
- Training in CFD (theoretical or practical) preferred.
- Strong ability to independently manage complex process development projects, including personnel, schedules, experimental thrusts, hardware procurement and budget oversight.
- Ability to be a process consultant to internal and external customers; demonstrated understanding of hardware design interactions with process outputs.
- Knowledge of integration of metals as work function materials and barrier layers in FEOL and BEOL flows.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and fully characterize deposition processes using first principles and experimental design techniques (DOE, RSM).
- Experience with materials characterization techniques such as XPS, SIMS, RBS, AFM, XRD, HRTEM, FESEM, Auger, Raman and ellipsometry.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to clearly communicate advanced technical constructs and contribute to IP/publications. Nice to Have
- Leadership or supervisory experience.
- Additional experience with customer-facing demonstrations and cross-functional collaboration. Compensation & Benefits
- Travel to support remote sites up to 10% of the time.
- ASM is an equal opportunity employer and considers qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, age, nationality, ethnicity, gender, gender identity or expression, marital status, pregnancy, political affiliation, disability, genetic information, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
