About this role
At Constant Contact, we are seriously awesome people who take ownership and make an impact by operating with the mindset, integrity and courage of a small business owner. There’s something so profoundly rewarding about knowing that your work is empowering people everywhere to pursue their dreams. Here, we all play an integral part in helping business owners, entrepreneurs, non-profits and individuals to succeed by giving them all the help and tools they need to grow online. We’re energized by new challenges and new possibilities-and we’re just getting started!
We have an opening for a Principal Platform Product Manager to lead the definition of Constant Contact’s core services, with particular focus on authentication and billing. These are the services every product we ship is built on: how a customer signs in, what their plan lets them do, and how what they use turns into revenue. You will set the direction for them, decide what we build and in what order, and define how they should behave so the teams that depend on them can move quickly and trust the result.
The first job is billing. We are moving from an in-house billing system to Stripe Billing, and hundreds of thousands of small businesses count on us getting it right. Alongside it, we are modernizing identity: sign-in, single sign-on, and the account and access model behind them. As those stabilize, the scope of this role grows with the business. Entitlements, account structure, partner and reseller models, and whatever core service we need next are all fair game for someone who has earned the trust to take them on.
You will partner with our Billing Infrastructure and Growth & Enablement engineering teams and with Security, and work closely with Finance, FP&A, RevOps, Support, Sales and our Growth PMs.
Success in this role looks like a clean move to Stripe, an identity platform that is simple for customers and safe for the business, and core services the rest of the company can build on without waiting on you.
The ideal candidate has real depth in how money moves through a subscription business, is technical enough to shape engineering decisions, and has the range to take on platform problems well beyond billing.
What You’ll Do
-
Lead the Definition of Core Services: Set the vision and multi-year roadmap for the shared services every product depends on, starting with billing and identity. Define how each service should behave, what we build, in what order and why. Engineering owns delivery; you own what “done” means and whether we have met it.
-
Own Billing & Payments Strategy: Set direction for subscriptions, plans and pricing, invoicing, payment methods, payment recovery, refunds and account changes. Decide the sequence and make the trade-offs explicit.
-
Finish the Move to Stripe: Define the phasing, success metrics, acceptance criteria and sign-off bar for our migration from an in-house billing system to Stripe Billing. Set the testing, rollback and control expectations from day one. Every customer should come through without noticing.
-
Make Pricing Changes Simple and Fast: Make price changes, new plans and add-ons quick and easy to launch. Define how what a customer pays for maps to what the product lets them do, so pricing, packaging and access stay in step across products.
-
Own Identity & Authentication: Set the direction for sign-in, single sign-on (SSO), account access and the identity platform behind them, with Engineering and Security. Define the account, role and permission model that our products and partners build on.
-
Make Billing Data Trustworthy: Define the billing data model and the source of truth across our systems so Finance’s reporting, revenue recognition and audits reconcile without manual work. You define how the data should look; Finance and our data team own the reporting built on it.
-
Lead Across Stakeholders: Be the product lead for Finance, FP&A, RevOps, Support and Sales on billing and identity. Set priorities across them, explain trade-offs clearly and build alignment around the plan.
-
Take On What Comes Next: As billing and identity settle, extend the same approach to other core services the business needs, whether that is entitlements, account structure, partner billing or something we have not named yet.
-
Raise the Bar: Mentor other product managers and help set how product works across platform teams.
-
Who You Are
-
An Experienced Platform Product Leader: You have 8+ years of Product Management experience in SaaS, with at least 4 years owning billing, payments or subscription commerce, and you have operated at a Staff or Principal level on a platform or core service that other product teams build on.
-
Fluent in Billing & Payments: You know subscriptions, trials, upgrades and downgrades, proration, payment recovery, refunds, chargebacks, multi-currency and tax. You have worked with Stripe or a comparable platform such as Zuora, Chargebee, Recurly or Adyen, and you understand how these platforms work under the hood.
-
Conversant in Identity: You understand authentication and authorization, SSO, multi-factor authentication, and role and permission models well enough to set direction and ask the right questions. You do not need to have owned an identity platform before, but you need to be able to lead one.
-
Technically Credible: You can read an API spec and follow data across systems. You ask sharp questions about webhooks, retries, source of truth and rollback plans. You can write SQL to check a number yourself. Engineers value your judgment, and you engage confidently on estimates and design.
-
Strategic and Opinionated: You bring a point of view on what we should build and why. You think in services, not features: when a dozen teams ask for a dozen things, you see the one capability underneath. You think in quarters and years, bring clarity to ambiguous problems, and can guide senior stakeholders toward the right sequence while keeping their trust.
-
Rigorous and Detail-Oriented: You have shipped a migration, cutover or pricing change with real customer and revenue stakes. You plan testing, rollback and controls from the start.
-
A Clear Communicator: You can explain a billing or access trade-off to an executive, a support agent and an engineer, and each of them gets it.
-
AI-Native and Curious: You already use AI tools to research, analyze data and move faster. It is part of how you work today.
-
Nice to Have
-
Led a migration from an in-house or legacy billing system to Stripe or another modern platform.
-
Owned an identity or access platform: Okta, OAuth, OpenID Connect, SAML, SSO, multi-factor authentication or role-based access control.
-
Experience with entitlement, packaging or feature-access systems that connect what a customer pays for to what they can do.
-
Experience in a high-volume, self-serve SMB subscription business.
-
Partner or reseller billing, where a third party bills the customer.
-
Finance systems experience: ERP, CPQ, revenue recognition or SOX controls.
-
Experience on a platform team that serves multiple product groups.
-
Experience mentoring senior PMs.
-
