About this role

Job title: Principal Optical Engineer - Light Sources

About the Role Be the key driver of the end-to-end development of Celestial’s external light source technology, from concept to volume manufacturing. This role focuses on delivering production-ready external optical components for Marvell's Celestial platforms, partnering across engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain to drive performance, reliability, and yield.

What You'll Do

  • Own end-to-end lifecycle support of the light sources: concept/design selection, development, procurement, full characterization, reliability qualification, and production release.
  • Act as the main point of contact with vendors to enable milestone completion and resolve performance/yield/supply issues.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with systems, packaging, firmware, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams to deliver production-ready solutions.
  • Contribute to development of other external optical components and fiber sub-assemblies used in Celestial products.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field with 10-15 years of experience OR Master’s/PhD with 5-10 years.
  • Strong experience with semiconductor DFB laser diodes; clear grasp of laser physics and fundamentals.
  • Experience with laser assembly and packaging techniques for data-center environments.
  • Prior vendor engagements for component procurement.
  • Experience running reliability assessment and qualification programs for optical components in general, and lasers in particular.
  • Experience designing and working with fiber-optic and integrated-optics components and assemblies.
  • Knowledge of standard manufacturing processes for integrating external components into Silicon photonics/integrated-optics products.
  • Experience setting up test stations for laser characterization; familiarity with standard test equipment.
  • Experience with free-space design software.
  • Ability to collect and analyze large datasets.

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with Silicon Photonics systems is a plus.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: USD 158,600 - 237,600 per year.
  • Employee stock purchase plan with a 2-year look back; family support programs; robust mental health resources; recognition and service awards.
  • Our benefits cover financial well-being, family support, mental and physical health, and recognition throughout your career at Marvell.
