Role overview

Svitla Systems Inc. is looking for a Principal Engineer (AOSP/C++) for a full-time position (40 hours per week). Our client specializes in an advanced automated operation platform that integrates IoT hardware with AI-driven applications. This solution is designed to streamline vehicle tracking, enhance driver safety, ensure compliance, manage maintenance, and optimize spending, among other capabilities. At its core, the platform serves as a robust IoT framework that connects vehicles, equipment, and facilities, enabling seamless data exchange and real-time insights.

Requirements

• Approximately 10–15+ years of software engineering experience, with significant experience in Android platform development.

• Deep hands-on experience with Android Open Source Project (AOSP).

• Strong proficiency in C/C++ and native system-level development.

• Strong understanding of Android platform internals.

• Proven hands-on experience with Qualcomm chipsets and Qualcomm-based Android platforms.

• Deep expertise in Android camera platforms and camera-related systems.

• Strong experience with video and multimedia technologies.

• Experience with graphics, composition, and/or display systems.

• Strong system-level debugging and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to independently investigate complex technical issues and drive them toward resolution.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with distributed engineering teams.

• Nice to Have

• Previous experience as a Principal Engineer, Staff Engineer, Technical Lead, or Architect.

• Experience providing technical leadership to other engineers.

• Experience coordinating technical work across multiple teams or locations.

• Experience working as a technical interface between local and distributed engineering teams.

• People management or engineering management experience.

• Experience mentoring senior engineers and helping teams make technical decisions.

• Experience working directly with Qualcomm or Qualcomm ecosystem/design partners.

• Experience with camera-focused devices, multi-camera systems, or 360° camera products

Responsibilities

• Serve as a Senior Technical Expert for Android/AOSP platform development.

• Investigate and resolve complex platform-level issues related to:

• Camera systems

• Video and multimedia

• Graphics and composition

• Display

• Hardware/software integration

• Work with Qualcomm-based Android platforms and platform-specific components.

• Develop, analyze, debug, and troubleshoot native Android platform components using C/C++.

• Diagnose complex problems across different layers of the Android platform.

• Support development and integration of new camera-based hardware products.

• Collaborate with Qualcomm and external platform/design partners when vendor-level support is required.

• Provide technical guidance to engineers working on Android platform and device-level development.

• Participate in technical and architectural decisions related to current and future Android-based products.

• Support Android platform evolution, including new platform versions, firmware changes, and hardware component updates.

• Help strengthen internal Android/AOSP and Qualcomm expertise and reduce dependency on external engineering partners over time.
