Job title: Principal Design Engineer – Civil & Structural

About the Role The Principal Design Engineer will be responsible for managing and leading civil and structural design projects within Omexom for VINCI group. You will ensure delivery to required quality, cost and programme, lead single- and multi-disciplinary design work, act as lead designer on a range of project sizes, mentor staff and support design management, ensuring compliance with standards and legislation.

What You'll Do

  • May assume the role of Lead Design Engineer (LCDAE) on large or complex projects as well as smaller projects as required.
  • May assume the role of Contractor Design Approval Engineer (CDAE) for NG projects.
  • Assist the Design Manager with appointing and providing training where necessary and manage design staff efficiently.
  • Business development with DNOs and TSOs, including prospecting, tendering and delivering design services.
  • Assist with the production of design tools and the review of internal procedures.
  • Generate civil and structural designs and convert to working drawings, coordinating with Omexom Engineers.
  • Provide input to ICE/IET training schemes and mentor graduates.
  • Support construction teams with technical documentation, CDM documents and health & safety files where appropriate.

What We're Looking For

  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, or EngC (I.Eng) or Chartered Engineer (C.Eng) with one of the PEIs (ICE, IET, IMechE).
  • Essential: Omexom training; detailed understanding of latest OHL design practices; BSc/BEng in Structural or Civil Engineering with 7–10 years' design/construction experience; Full UK Driving Licence; Principal Designer experience.
  • Desirable: I.Eng (ICE/IET) with preference for C.Eng; attendance of National Grid Persons Course; CSCS card as PQP/Safety Passport or equivalent.
  • Competencies: CDM 2015 knowledge (Principal Designer responsibilities); robust design risk assessment; UK standards and legislation knowledge; experience with construction materials (timber, concrete, reinforced concrete); MS Office proficiency; design software (PLS-CADD, AutoCAD, Revit); BIM/ISO 19650 awareness; ability to produce CDM as-builts and health and safety file; change control and NCR reporting; team leadership and communication skills.

Nice to Have

  • Chartered Engineer (C.Eng) preferred; Incorporated Engineer (I.Eng) with ICE/IET acceptable; National Grid Persons Course; CSCS PQP/Safety Passport.
