Principal | Deputy Principal

Overview

We are building a talent pipeline of experienced, visionary school leaders for current and upcoming Principal opportunities at well-established independent schools across South Africa. We are keen to connect with candidates who are open to relocating for the right leadership role, anywhere in the country.

These are senior leadership positions responsible for the overall strategic direction, academic excellence, financial sustainability, and cultural identity of a school. Successful candidates will provide inspirational leadership to staff, learners, and the broader school community, while upholding each institution's values, ethos, and reputation for academic and co-curricular excellence.

Key Responsibilities Typically Include:

Provide strategic and operational leadership across all areas of the school, including academics, finance, governance, marketing, and pastoral care

Drive the school's vision, mission, and long-term strategic plan in collaboration with the governing body/board

Ensure high standards of teaching, learning, and academic performance across all phases

Oversee financial planning, budgeting, and resource allocation to ensure sustainability and growth

Lead, mentor, and develop a strong senior management team and staff body

Foster a positive, inclusive, and values-driven school culture for learners and staff

Manage stakeholder relationships, including parents, alumni, governing body members, and the wider community

Ensure compliance with relevant education legislation, regulatory bodies, and accreditation requirements

Champion marketing, admissions, and enrolment growth strategies

Represent the school at external events, in the media, and within the broader independent schools sector

Requirements

• Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Education (B.Ed) or equivalent teaching qualification

• Postgraduate qualification in Education Management, Leadership, or a related field (essential or strongly preferred)

• Registration with SACE (South African Council for Educators) – essential

• Valid Code B driver's licence

• Minimum Requirements

• Minimum 8–10 years' teaching experience, including significant time in a senior leadership role (Head, Deputy Head, or Executive Head level)

• Proven experience in independent/private school governance, finance, and operations

• Demonstrated track record of leading a school through academic growth and institutional development

• Sound financial and budgetary management experience

• Strong staff leadership, mentorship, and team-building experience

• Experience engaging with governing bodies, parent communities, and external stakeholders

• Willingness to relocate within South Africa for the right opportunity

• Clear criminal record and clear credit record

• Willingness to undergo relevant background/vetting checks (SAPS, ITC, etc.)
