About the role
Reporting to the Pricing Data Science & Automation Manager as part of Castrol’s Global Pricing Team, the Pricing Operations Research & Data Analyst plays a critical role in advancing Castrol’s pricing capability through advanced analytics, modelling & automation.
This role sits at the intersection of data science and commercial decision-making, applying operations research and analytical techniques to solve complex pricing challenges. The successful candidate will develop scalable models and insights that directly improve price realization, optimize gross-to-net performance, and drive profitable growth across products, customers & channels.
You will be responsible for turning data into actionable pricing recommendations, supporting smarter, faster & more consistent decision-making across the business.
What you will deliver
- Experience in data science, operations research, pricing analytics, or commercial analytics
- Strong problem-solving capability with a quantitative approach
- Demonstrated ability to translate analytical outputs into business impact
- Exposure to pricing, revenue management, or commercial strategy is highly advantageous
- Statistical modelling / econometrics
- Optimization techniques (e.g., linear programming, scenario optimization)
- Demand modelling and price elasticity
- Data manipulation and analysis (Python, R, SQL for example)
- Build and maintain models to address core pricing challenges:
- Price elasticity and demand forecasting
- Willingness to pay and price sensitivity
- Scenario modelling and price optimization
- Apply operations research techniques to solve pricing and portfolio optimization problems
- Continuously refine models to improve accuracy, scalability, and commercial relevance
- Drive gross-to-net analytics & price realization
- Deliver insights to improve product mix, price positioning, and portfolio structure
- Analyze performance across:
- Channels (DIY, DIFM, B2B)
- Customer segments and key accounts
- Pack sizes, specifications, and price tiers
- Support development of price ladders and segmentation strategies
- Build reusable analytical tools, models, and dashboards
- Support automation of pricing workflows and reporting processes
- Improve speed and consistency of pricing decision-making through scalable solutions
- Contribute to the evolution of pricing tools (e.g., Nova, dashboards, analytics platforms)
- Turn complex analytical outputs into clear, actionable recommendations
- Support cases with quantified revenue and margin impact
- Work closely with Pricing, Sales, Finance, and Marketing teams to embed insights into decisions
- Contribute to insight-led storytelling for senior partners
What you will need to be successful
- Experience in data science, analytics, or operations research
- University degree or equivalent experience or higher
- Strong background in statistical or econometric modelling
- Experience working with large datasets and extracting insights
- Experience in pricing, revenue management, or commercial analytics
- Exposure to trade spend / gross-to-net analytics
- Experience in FMCG, automotive, energy, or B2B industries
- Strong analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex analytical problems
- Proficiency in one or more analytical programming languages (e.g., Python, R) & data querying tools
- Strong SQL and data manipulation capability
- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI or similar)
- Familiarity with optimization techniques and modelling approaches
- Exposure to automation tools, workflows, or APIs is advantageous
