Pretrial Services Specialist

About the Role The Union Vicinage is seeking an individual to join the vicinage Pretrial Services Program. The role involves researching case histories, conducting pretrial risk assessments, preparing reports, meeting with defendants, and making recommendations to judges regarding conditions of pretrial release; you will interact with judges, prosecutors, public defenders, the county jail, local law enforcement, the private bar, and the public. What You'll Do

• Regularly interact with pretrial defendants, judges, prosecutors, public defenders, the county jail, local law enforcement, the private bar, and the public.
• Research criminal case histories and conduct pretrial risk assessments.
• Prepare reports, meet with defendants, and make recommendations to judges regarding conditions of pretrial release.
• Staff first appearance/Central Judicial Processing hearings and pretrial detention hearings.
• Monitor conditions of pretrial release for higher risk defendants; assist defendants in attaining goals to ensure their appearance and public safety; report non-compliance to the court.
• Provide guidance to clients with social, emotional, and rehabilitative needs; refer to social services, testing, treatment and counseling; monitor treatment progress.
• Assist supervisors with training and mentoring of Pretrial Services staff and assist with stakeholder and community outreach related to the Pretrial Services Program.
• Work a non-traditional schedule, which may include weekends, holidays, late nights and after hours on-call responsibilities.
• Perform other related duties; this position will primarily handle monitoring duties; regular and predictable presence at the worksite is essential. What We're Looking For
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and two years of professional experience in case management involving gathering and analyzing case-related information, including exercise of judgment and discretion; experience reviewing cases to identify needs, coordinating with judges/attorneys to resolve issues, and/or preparing reports.
• Substitution: an associate degree plus two years of paraprofessional or professional experience may substitute for a bachelor’s degree; a master’s degree may substitute for one year of experience.
• Education note: Degrees conferred outside the United States must be evaluated by a recognized evaluation service (NACES).
• BICAT testing: Candidates selected for bilingual variant titles must pass the New Jersey Civil Service Commission Bilingual Communicative Ability Test (BICAT) or provide proof of bilingual proficiency.
• Physical ability: Some positions require the ability to perform work that includes climbing, prolonged standing, stretching, bending and reaching; candidates may need to frequently lift and carry supplies. Nice to Have

• Salary ranges: Schedule A: $61,749.69–$100,154.67; Schedule B: $61,749.69–$95,146.95.
