Job title: Pretrial Services Monitor

About the Role The selected candidate will primarily monitor the conditions of pretrial release for individuals ordered to more stringent monitoring and more frequent contact with the courts, to assist these individuals in attaining specific goals to ensure their appearance in court and the safety of the public during the individual’s period of pretrial release, and report the individuals’ compliance or non-compliance with conditions of release to the court. The role also involves researching criminal case histories, conducting pretrial risk assessments, preparing reports, meeting with defendants, making recommendations to judges regarding conditions of pretrial release for pretrial defendants, and staffing first appearance/Central Judicial Processing hearings and pretrial detention hearings. The selected candidate will provide guidance to clients with specific needs, including social, emotional, and rehabilitative concerns, and will monitor clients' treatment progress. The position includes training/mentoring Pretrial Services staff and stakeholder/community outreach related to the Pretrial Services Program. Regular duties require a non-traditional work week, including weekends, holidays and after-hours on-call responsibilities. This position will primarily handle monitoring duties; experience with pretrial services programs is helpful but not required.

Remote Work The Judiciary currently offers a hybrid work schedule, and this position may qualify for up to 2 days of remote work outside of Judiciary buildings. To participate, you must install a multifactor authentication app and have high speed home internet; regular and predictable presence at the worksite is essential.

What You'll Do

  • Monitor conditions of pretrial release for individuals ordered to more stringent monitoring and more frequent contact with the courts; report compliance or non-compliance to the court
  • Research criminal case histories, conduct pretrial risk assessments, prepare reports, meet with defendants, and make recommendations to judges regarding conditions of release
  • Staff first appearance/Central Judicial Processing hearings and pretrial detention hearings
  • Provide guidance to clients with social, emotional, and rehabilitative concerns; make referrals for social services, testing, treatment and/or counseling; monitor treatment progress
  • Assist supervisors with training and mentoring Pretrial Services staff; assist with stakeholder and community outreach related to the Pretrial Services Program
  • Work a non-traditional schedule, including weekends, holidays and after-hours on-call responsibilities
  • This position will primarily handle monitoring duties; experience with pretrial services programs is helpful but not required

  • Flexibility to work non-traditional hours including weekends, holidays, and on-call duties
  • Residency requirement: New Jersey residency within one year; fingerprinting background check; willingness to undergo a thorough background check
  • Driver's license if vehicle operation is necessary for duties
  • US work authorization; citizenship not required

Nice to Have

  • Experience with pretrial services programs is helpful but not required

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $61,749.69 to $100,154.67 (Schedule A) and $61,749.69 to $95,146.95 (Schedule B); starting salary normally at the minimum; potential for growth and advancement
