About this role

Job title: Pre-Construction Manager

About the Role As a Pre-Construction Manager, you will own the pre-construction process and ensure smooth transitions between phases. You will equip Project Delivery teams with reproducible tools, playbooks, and dashboards to increase predictability and reduce risk, ultimately accelerating mobilization and improving cost, schedule, and quality.

What You'll Do

  • Lead phase handoffs and own the stage-gate process quality across the full project lifecycle to ensure continuity and accountability.
  • Produce and validate Project Execution Plans (PEPs) and mobilization deliverables (budget fidelity, construction schedule, procurement sequencing, major subcontract scopes, site logistics, and risk register).
  • Build and roll out playbooks, checklists, templates, and automated dashboards (PowerBI) used across projects to improve predictability and decision-making.
  • Develop metrics and dashboards that track pre-construction KPIs (estimate variance, time-to-mobilization, stage-gate compliance, key risk indicators) and present actionable insights to leadership.
  • Capture and institutionalize lessons learned, lead root-cause reviews for early-project issues, and run pilots to test process or tool improvements.
  • Provide execution-focused input to commercial terms, contract allowances, contingency strategy, and subcontractor/supplier sequencing to reduce execution risk.
  • Facilitate cross-functional decision-making, clearly document decisions and action owners, and escalate risks when resolution is required.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience in pre-construction, estimating, project engineering, or project planning for medium-to-large construction projects (utility-scale renewables experience strongly preferred).
  • Demonstrated experience with stage-gate frameworks and developing Project Execution Plans.
  • Proven ability to translate commercial and technical inputs into executable plans.

Nice to Have

  • Field experience on utility-scale solar and/or energy storage projects (construction or commissioning exposure preferred).
  • Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline; PMP or equivalent certification.
  • Hands-on experience with Primavera P6, MS Project, Procore (or similar construction management platforms).
  • Implementing process improvements or tools adopted across multiple projects.
  • Experience managing multiple projects concurrently (typical project sizes ~50–300 MW).
  • Willing to travel up to 20–30% for site visits and supplier/partner meetings.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: USD 160,000–200,000 per year. This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form.
  • At Koch companies, we provide a comprehensive benefits plan including medical, dental, vision, flexible spending and health savings accounts, life insurance, AD&D, disability, retirement, paid vacation/time off, educational assistance, infertility assistance, paid parental leave and adoption assistance. Specific eligibility criteria is set by the applicable Summary Plan Description, policy or guideline and benefits may vary by geographic region. If you have questions, please speak to your recruiter.
