About the Role The Syracuse University Experimental Gravitational-Wave group is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to contribute to technology for current and future gravitational-wave detectors. The successful candidate will design, build, and test quantum noise reduction schemes and collaborate with group members on optics-focused research.
What You'll Do
- Conduct independent research in the lab and mentor graduate students in the Syracuse University Gravitational-Wave Group.
- Design, build, and test quantum noise reduction schemes for interferometric gravitational-wave detectors.
- Contribute to dissemination of results through publications and presentations and collaborate with colleagues across the group.
What We're Looking For
- PhD in physics, engineering, or a related field.
- Experience in optics is prioritized; strengths in optics, electronics, quantum optics, interferometer control and simulation are desired.
- Strong experimental and analytical skills and the ability to advise/mentor graduate students.
Nice to Have
- Additional experience in interferometer control and simulation or related instrumentation.
- Prior work in gravitational-wave detector technology is a plus.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $62,400 - $68,000 per year.
- Initial appointment for one year with the possibility of renewal; on-campus, exempt, full-time position.
