Job title: Postdoctoral Researcher - Language-Based Security
About the Role
Postdoctoral Researcher to work in language-based security under Prof. Kristopher Micinski. The role focuses on automated reasoning, security type systems, and static/dynamic information-flow analysis. The candidate will join the research group in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science department, with availability starting Fall 2025.
What You'll Do
- Carry out basic and applied research to support sponsored projects and publish research papers.
- Mentor graduate and undergraduate students working on related projects.
- Collaborate on proposals to funding agencies and work with researchers from multiple disciplines across campus and with external collaborators.
- Split time roughly half on two projects: Assemblage and NSF PPoSS Large, mentoring Dr. Micinski’s PhD students for part of the time and contributing to related projects for the remainder.
- Engage in example projects including declarative (de)compilation, type systems/static analysis for relational or security properties, and semantic binary similarity matching.
What We're Looking For
- Doctoral degree in Computer Science (exceptional candidates from other fields welcome).
- Proven track record of publishing at competitive venues in programming languages, security, or related fields.
- Experience with the design of static/dynamic enforcement mechanisms for information flow (or similar security-relevant) and relational properties.
- Experience with interactive proof assistants (such as Lean, Coq, or Agda) used to formalize metatheory for security-relevant properties of programming languages.
- Highly motivated to work with an interdisciplinary team of students and collaborators.
Nice to Have
- Experience with declarative (de)compilation.
- Experience with type systems / static analysis for relational or security properties.
- Experience with semantic binary similarity matching.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: USD 60,450 - 65,000 per year.
- Exempt status; on-campus position; remote work arrangements are limited in accordance with University policy.
