About the Role Join Syracuse University's Physics Department as a postdoctoral researcher in Experimental High Energy Physics, focusing on the LHCb experiment and its Upgrades. The role involves hardware development including the Upstream Pixel detector based on HV-MAP technology, readout architecture, powering and data transmission optimization, and exploratory computing with FPGAs and GPUs, along with physics analyses using LHCb Run 3 data. Appointments can begin in Fall 2025 and may be based at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland, or on the Syracuse campus, with initial appointment for one year and potential renewal.
What You'll Do
- Design and implement components of instrumentation projects at Syracuse University
- Conduct detector optimization studies, laboratory measurements, and test-beam studies
- Mentor a small team of graduate and undergraduate students
- Collaborate on physics analyses with LHCb RUN 3 data in conjunction with Syracuse faculty
What We're Looking For
- PhD in Experimental High Energy Physics
- Experience in instrumentation, in particular solid-state detectors or electronics, and/or physics analysis
Nice to Have
- Experience with detector hardware development and data analysis; familiarity with FPGAs and GPUs; experience with HPC environments
- Experience with LHCb RUN 3 data is desirable
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $62,400 - $64,000 USD per year
- Initial appointment for one year with possibility of renewal
- On-campus position, located at Syracuse University or CERN, Geneva, Switzerland
