About the Role
Postdoctoral Researcher in the Dynamic Sustainability Lab to advance research on the U.S. biobased economy through data-driven methods, AI-enabled data management and visualization, and mentorship of undergraduate and graduate students. The role involves supporting lab leadership on a multi-year USDA grant project and contributing to the development of reports, research articles, and an interactive database/website.
What You'll Do
- Support the lab director, Assistant Research Professor, and lab Managing Director in research on the biobased economy (bioenergy, biochemicals, bioplastics, biobased consumer products, Sustainable Aviation Fuels, and biobased building materials).
- Contribute to the further development and expansion of an interactive biobased feedstocks and biobased products database and the advancingmarkets.org website as part of the USDA grant.
- Apply and integrate Artificial Intelligence tools in research, data management and data visualization; mentor undergraduate and graduate student researchers.
- Lead or participate in the development of technical reports, research articles, and general interest articles; opportunities for limited teaching as mutually agreed upon.
- Support dissemination efforts including social media outlets as appropriate.
What We're Looking For
- Doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) in environmental sciences, environmental policy, environmental engineering, bio-agricultural sciences/engineering, chemical engineering, supply chain management, or computer sciences.
- Strong data management and data visualization skills; understanding of biobased supply chains preferred.
- 40% emphasis on research on the biobased economy (markets, economics, production, processors, producers, institutional buyers); 30% on expanding/updating DSL databases and developing new tools; 30% on mentoring students and data work.
- Demonstrated understanding and experience with the role and application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in data development and visualization.
- Understanding of Environmental Life Cycle Assessments and greenhouse gas accounting/reporting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English with evidence of technical reports.
Nice to Have
- Additional preference for AI-enabled data development/visualization experience.
- Strong knowledge of LCA and GHG accounting methodologies beyond basics.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: USD 62,400 – 66,900 per year.
- Exempt position; on-campus presence required; represented by SEIU, Local 200United.
