Job Description
The Burton Blatt Institute (BBI) brings together researchers, evaluators, trainers, and practitioners to address the most pressing challenges facing people with disabilities. Our work moves in two directions: our research and evaluation produce the evidence, and our training, technical assistance, outreach, and consulting put that evidence into practice. This combination allows us to inform policy, shape practices, and build capacity in the communities we serve.
BBI invites applications from highly qualified recent Ph.D. graduates who possess demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in disability policy research. This is a full-time research position, located at Syracuse University campus. The Postdoctoral Scholar will be deeply engaged in BBI’s disability employment-sponsored projects and support data gathering, analysis, writing, and publication. The position will report to BBI’s Director of Research and Research Assistant Professor.
This position is part of a bargaining unit and is represented by a union, SEIU Local 200 United.
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Economics, Public Administration, Public Policy, Sociology, Disability Policy, Public Health, Social Sciences or related fields.
- Proficiency in statistical programming or software such as R, Stata, or SAS.
- Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills to target both academic and non-academic stakeholders.
Job Specific Qualifications
- Knowledge of disability policy, the ADA, and general interest aligned with BBI’s mission.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work independently as well as in a team, and to communicate effectively across multiple platforms, including in-person and virtual meetings, and in writing.
Responsibilities
- Research and Analysis: design empirical studies, clean and manage large datasets, and apply advanced econometric and quantitative methods.
- Contribute to research projects; manage project timelines, mentor student research assistants, and collaborate with interdisciplinary research teams.
- Write manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals, draft research briefs or reports, and present findings to internal or external audiences.
Physical Requirements
Ability to work from Syracuse University Campus. Ability to be seated in front of a computer for most of the workday.
