Macquarie Business School, Macquarie University (Wallumattagal Campus), North Ryde
Shape how firms think about the future and how policy reaches the real economy.
Firm expectations sit at the heart of some of the most pressing questions in macroeconomics today. How do businesses form views about inflation, costs and demand? How do those views shape pricing, wages, hiring and investment? And how does monetary policy actually travel through the economy when uncertainty is high? The Department of Economics at Macquarie Business School is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to help answer these questions.
This is a dedicated research appointment with no formal teaching requirement. You will join a team of macroeconomists and take primary responsibility for a research stream on firm expectations and macroeconomic uncertainty, with protected research time, generous scope to shape your own agenda, and the resources to pursue publication in leading economics journals. You will also help design and field original survey instruments and information-provision experiments, giving you access to novel micro-level data from the ground up.
About the Role
Reporting into the macroeconomics research team in the Department of Economics, you will:
-
Design, conduct and publish high-quality research on firm expectation formation and perceptions of macroeconomic uncertainty.
-
Examine the transmission of monetary policy, cost shocks and uncertainty to firms' pricing, wage-setting, hiring and investment decisions.
-
Investigate inflation dynamics and firms' cost pass-through behaviour.
-
Contribute to the design of survey instruments and information-provision experiments, including question design, fielding and data analysis.
-
Prepare papers for submission to leading international economics journals and present findings at seminars, workshops and conferences.
-
Coordinate the work of research assistants where required.
-
Develop your own research agenda alongside the funded research stream, and build networks across the Department, the Business School and the wider policy and research community.
