About this role
About the Role
The Singh lab at NYGC is seeking a motivated postdoctoral research associate to lead method development and analysis in statistical human genetics focused on brain disorders. You will develop and apply scalable methods to analyze genetic and phenotypic data from large clinical and population datasets to understand how genetic risk factors shape psychiatric and neurodevelopmental phenotypes. This position offers an interdisciplinary, multi-institute environment in New York City with opportunities for travel and collaboration.
What You'll Do
- Develop and apply new statistical, computational, and machine learning methods for analyzing large-scale genetic and phenotypic data using scalable technologies.
- Implement, document, and scale these methods using robust programming tools for internal use and sharing with the community.
- Lead planned research projects from start to finish; collaborate with computational and clinical colleagues to interpret results.
- Lead manuscript preparation and submission; present at internal meetings and conferences.
- Mentor junior members and provide training; participate in lab activities.
What We're Looking For
- Ph.D. in Biological Sciences, Genetics, Statistics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Epidemiology, or equivalent.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, Java, C/C++ or equivalent).
- Proficiency in R/RStudio and statistical packages.
- Proficiency in Unix/Linux, shell scripting; experience with cloud computing (e.g., Google Cloud).
- Familiarity with analyzing high-throughput genetic data (FASTA, BAM/CRAM, VCF, BED/BIM/FAM; PLINK, bcftools, Hail).
- Proficiency in building robust pipelines for genomics or -omics data (WGS, RNA-seq, ATAC-seq).
- Proficiency in software engineering best practices (GitHub, Docker).
- Ability to productionize and scale data analysis methods and workflows; strong collaboration.
- Interest and experience supervising and mentoring junior team members.
