About this role
About the Role The Jalili Lab at The Jackson Laboratory and Connecticut Children’s Medical Center seeks a highly motivated postdoctoral scientist to develop in vitro gastrointestinal host-immune-microbiome culture models for disease modeling and therapeutic development. The role focuses on organoid engineering, organ-on-a-chip platforms, microfluidics, and microbiome sciences to study inflammatory conditions of the gut, using mouse- and patient-derived cells and complex Organ Chip models, in collaboration with clinicians and investigators at JAX, Connecticut Children’s, and UConn Health.
What You'll Do
- Lead and contribute to development and application of organoid culture and Organ Chip-based in vitro models to study intestinal inflammation and disease mechanisms.
- Utilize organoid engineering, organ-on-a-chip, microfluidics, microbiome sequencing, single-cell transcriptomics, metagenomics and proteomics.
- Work with mouse- and patient-derived cells/organoids and microbiomes in concert with clinicians and researchers at Jackson Laboratory, Connecticut Children’s, and UConn Health.
- Contribute to data analysis, manuscript preparation and dissemination; collaborate across multidisciplinary teams; contribute to training and mentoring of junior researchers.
What We're Looking For
- Ph.D. in biomedical sciences, bioengineering, microbiology, immunology or related field.
- Strong skillsets in cell and tissue engineering; training in bioengineering, immunoengineering and cell biology.
- Experience in in vivo models, gastroenterology research, bacterial cultures, host-microbiome interactions, and multi-omics approaches; at least one first-author publication.
- Excellent writing and communication skills; ability to work independently and in a collaborative team.
Nice to Have
- Prior gastroenterology research experience; familiarity with organoid culture, organ-on-a-chip platforms, organoid engineering, and/or advanced omics techniques may be beneficial.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary is banded by postdoctoral years: Year 0-1 $65,589; Year 1-2 $67,318; Year 2-3 $69,095; Year 3-4 $70,521; Year 4-5 $72,877; Year 5-6 $75,569 per year. Based on years of experience as Postdoc.
- The Jackson Laboratory offers a vibrant training environment with multidisciplinary collaboration and a program to develop science communication, entrepreneurship, teaching, mentoring and lab management to support career development.
- Equal opportunity employer; inclusive environment; opportunities to work across JAX, Connecticut Children’s and UConn Health.
