Job title: Post Doctoral Research Fellow-Vickman Lab

About the Role The Post Doctoral Research Fellow will join the Vickman laboratory in Evanston, IL to investigate inflammatory cells in benign prostatic hyperplasia. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, reliable, curious, proficient in written and verbal English, and capable of independent research.

What You'll Do

• Manage, organize and plan the experimental work of the laboratory with the approval of the principal investigator.
• Design, set up, conduct, and correlate a variety of difficult experiments (original and standard).
• Regularly review scientific literature; evaluate and recommend applicable techniques and procedures.
• Analyze and prepare results of research in conjunction with the principal investigator(s).
• Co-author scientific papers for presentation and publication.
• Directly supervise various levels of laboratory personnel, including hiring, appraising performance, recommending salary increases, and taking disciplinary action.
• Teach others to perform technically difficult experiments requiring advanced knowledge of complicated procedures and techniques.
• Consult with professional research personnel in matters of research design, experimental techniques, instrumentation, and scientific inference from research results.
• Perform related duties as required or assigned; perform analysis of data using appropriate software, including statistical analysis.
• Participate in grant writing.
• Participate in writing and submission of peer-reviewed manuscripts.

What We're Looking For

• Education: Doctorate in Medicine or Doctorate in Biology (MD/PhD) required.
• Experience: 3 years of experience in professional research laboratory in genetic epidemiological studies.
• Skills: Extensive knowledge of current literature in translational, urology and/or immunology research; general animal model handling/experience; ability to solve technical and inter-laboratory problems related to research; capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect experiments and reporting results; ability to prepare and author scientific manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication.
• Additional: Self-motivated, reliable, curious; proficient in written and verbal English; capable of independent research.

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary: $63,480 - $77,076 per year (based on experience and NIH guidelines).
