Job title: Polysom Tech RPSGT - FTR Nights
About the Role The sleep technologist reports directly to the Medical Director or designee to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders, including in-center and out-of-center testing, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, patient care and education. The role includes supervising other sleep center staff and maintaining credentialing in sleep technology.
What You'll Do
- Promote healthy sleep hygiene practices for all patients
- Complete ordered studies following procedure protocols to ensure accurate data
- Inspect and maintain sleep study equipment before each test
- Assist with inventory control and report any broken equipment per policy
- Perform physiological calibrations and adjustments to ensure proper signals
- Follow lights-out and lights-on procedures to establish baseline values and verify data integrity
- Acquire data while monitoring signal quality and minimizing artifacts; document artifacts and corrections
- Record routine observations including sleep stages and clinical events
- Implement interventions such as positive airway pressure or oxygen therapy for patient safety
- Provide age-specific care and education for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
- Score sleep/wake stages per standard guidelines and clinical events per AASM standards
- Prepare portable monitoring equipment and download data
- Educate patients for out-of-center sleep testing
- Adhere to cleaning and disinfection procedures for all sleep-related equipment
- Submit completed tests to Medical Director for interpretation
- Identify quality improvement opportunities and participate in departmental meetings and community education
- Generate accurate reports of sleep/wake and clinical events
- Support Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives
- Perform other duties as assigned
What We're Looking For
- Current BLS certification
- Successful completion of an accredited educational program leading to a certificate or associate degree with emphasis in sleep technology OR successful completion of a sleep technology program
- Must be associated with a state-licensed and/or nationally accredited educational facility or equivalent experience and demonstrated proficiency for all competencies required of a sleep technician
- Certification by a nationally recognized certification board and holds either the Registered Sleep Technologists (RST), Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT), or Sleep Disorder Specialist (SOS) credential
- Hold a current license in the State of Iowa for Polysomnography or a dual license in Respiratory Therapy and Polysomnography
Nice to Have
- Associate's Degree in a Health-related field
- Two years of direct patient care experience
- Eighteen months experience in polysomnography testing
