Job title: Police Telecommunicator I
The City of Hendersonville is seeking a Police Telecommunicator I to support the police department by receiving and processing emergency and non-emergency calls, prioritizing requests, and dispatching public safety personnel. The role requires strong multitasking, clear communication, and proficiency with computer-aided dispatch systems to keep information flowing during emergencies.
What You'll Do
- Receive emergency and non-emergency calls and evaluate requests for service; prioritize according to protocol and dispatch officers accordingly.
- Operate a two-way radio system; relay information to responders and coordinate additional units as situations evolve.
- Monitor officer activity, provide information, and maintain records for DCI/NCIC entries; manage warrants and orders using eWarrants and CJLEADS.
- Prepare and update logs, warrants, and criminal history records; generate morning reports for news media and police administration.
- Stay current on call disposition codes, ten-codes, department policies, procedures, and general orders.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For
- High School Diploma or GED; valid Class C Driver's License; ability to obtain NC telecommunicator certifications within one year (CJLEADS, NC DCI 1-3, eWarrants).
- Minimum typing speed of 35 WPM; strong multitasking abilities; ability to work under stress; pass drug and background checks.
- Experience in a dispatch role or extensive public contact, preferably in law enforcement or EMS; knowledge of CAD systems and FCC signals; familiarity with DCI/NCIC.
- General Telecommunicators Certificate or ability to obtain it within the designated timeframe.
Nice to Have
- Prior experience with public safety communications and familiarity with standard operating procedures manuals and reference materials.
