About the Role The Police Officer at Marquette University helps prevent crime and protect the campus community. The role focuses on safeguarding students, faculty, staff, and visitors, enforcing laws and regulations, and contributing to a safe campus through service, collaboration, and community policing. What You'll Do
- Investigate complaints or crimes and participate in follow-up of criminal cases as required.
- Enforce traffic and safety regulations in accordance with municipal ordinances and state laws.
- Detect and prevent crime; apprehend violators; respond to calls for service on and off campus and submit required reports.
- Participate in training and professional development; maintain a positive, impartial public image.
- Develop professional relationships with University departments, outside agencies, and community groups.
- Take on special assignments including university sporting events and concerts; may perform duties such as bike officer, intoxilizer operator, crime scene technician, and other duties as assigned.
- Perform other duties as required by the department. What We're Looking For
- Must be at least 21 years old; possess a High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Wisconsin driver's license with a favorable driving record.
- U.S. citizen or permanent resident eligible for citizenship; no felony convictions or certain disqualifying misdemeanors (including domestic violence offenses).
- For certified candidates: Basic Academy Certificate within the past three years or current/past employment with a Wisconsin certified law enforcement agency; submit Basic Academy Certificate with application; if in academy, provide projected graduation date.
- For non-certified candidates: 60 college credits upon graduating the Police Academy.
- Functional competencies: excellent oral and written communication; effective interpersonal skills; ability to maintain confidentiality; sound judgment; ability to work independently; commitment to top-quality customer service; ability to interact professionally with diverse publics; ability to act effectively in emergencies and sensitive situations.
