About the Role The Northeast Ohio Medical University Police Department seeks sworn officers to protect the campus, enforce laws, and provide equitable police services aligned with the university’s mission. This full-time role supports a safe and peaceful campus environment through proactive policing and campus partnerships. What You'll Do
- Patrol buildings and grounds on foot or by vehicle to monitor security, respond to emergencies, accidents, and criminal activity; enforce traffic and parking rules; issue tickets when appropriate; provide security at special events; collaborate with other law enforcement agencies as needed.
- Perform routine administrative duties, log incidents, complete police activity reports, and answer department phones.
- Investigate complaints and conduct criminal and accident investigations on campus; gather evidence, interview witnesses, and prepare detailed reports; conduct follow-up investigations as needed.
- Foster positive relationships with students, faculty, and staff through regular interactions; participate in liaison programs, community policing activities, and campus education programs.
- Perform other special service functions and duties as assigned. What We're Looking For
- Police Officer I:
- High school diploma or equivalent; Valid Ohio Driver’s License; Successful completion of Ohio Peace Officer basic training; Successful completion of NEOMED Police Department field training.
- Police Officer II:
- All of the above plus: Minimum of two years (i.e., 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours) of college-level credits in criminal justice, emergency management, or related field, or equivalent training or experience; Minimum of three years full-time law enforcement experience.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Police Officer I: Previous law enforcement experience.
- Police Officer II: Prior supervisory experience.
- Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to utilize applicable tools and equipment; may be required to submit to drug testing.
- Exposed to hazards (gunfire, high-speed driving, etc.) and variable weather; may require extended walking/standing or physical exertion; may work varied hours including nights, weekends, and holidays; may be called to emergency situations; may require on- or off-campus travel. Nice to Have
- Police Officer II: Prior supervisory experience. Compensation & Benefits
- Pay ranges: Police Officer I: $22.26 – $26.34 per hour; Police Officer II: $25.04 – $29.63 per hour. Both are commensurate with experience.
