About the Role

The City of Bonney Lake Police Department seeks a Police Officer to perform general duty police work to protect life and property, enforce laws, investigate crimes, and engage with the community. This is a continuous posting to establish an eligibility list; entry‑level candidates must apply through Public Safety Testing (PST) and, as of March 1, 2025, must have passed the new written exam to be eligible.

What You'll Do

• Patrol the City to enforce laws, prevent crime, preserve peace and order, and provide public protection for safety of people and property.
• Respond to calls for service or incidents; submit required reports in a timely and accurate manner.
• Resolve criminal, non-criminal, and civil issues including warnings, mediation, reports, referrals, infractions, citations, and arrests.
• Process complaints, arrest offenders, conduct routine investigations; obtain search warrants; collect and preserve evidence; interview victims, witnesses, and suspects.
• Ensure work complies with Federal, State and City laws; department policies and accepted law enforcement practices.
• Develop knowledge of streets, landmarks, known criminals, and local activity.
• Participate in crime prevention initiatives.
• Respond to traffic collisions or medical emergencies and render first aid/CPR until responders arrive.
• Properly care for City-issued equipment; perform traffic and crowd control as needed; safeguard against collisions.
• Testify in court; prepare for testimony; ensure evidence is present upon request; review reports.
• Use force only as necessary and per department policy; protect self and others from harm.
• Transport and book prisoners; report hazards or equipment problems to supervision; relay intelligence as needed.
• Arrive on time in proper uniform; maintain fitness for duty; sign and uphold the Oath of Office; review policies.
• May serve on City committees; contribute to teamwork and inclusivity; stay current with relevant technology.
• Additional duties may include ancillary opportunities such as Marine Services, Investigations, Metro Tactical Response Team, Field Training Officer, Specialized Traffic Emphasis, Public Information Officer, School Resource Officer, Metro Collision Response Team, CJTC TAC Officer, Firearms Instructor, and related roles.

What We're Looking For

• Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal laws, policies, and procedures; ability to apply them in the field.
• Ability to patrol, monitor, and enforce laws; prevent crime; protect life and property.
• Ability to respond to calls, conduct investigations, collect evidence, interview victims, witnesses, and suspects; obtain warrants as needed.
• Ability to testify in court and prepare for court appearances; review and present evidence.
• Strong commitment to public service, teamwork, and working with diverse communities; promotion of inclusion.
• Ability to remain current with technology and police practices; maintain a professional appearance and attitude; punctuality and reliability.
• Willingness to adhere to the Oath of Office and City policies; readiness for assigned duties including possible specialized units.
• Entry-level requirement: apply through PST and pass the new written exam as of March 1, 2025; maintain physical/mental fitness for duty.

Compensation & Benefits

• Premium Pay:

Education

• 2.5% (AA/AS) or 5% (BA/BS); Detective 5%; Field Training Officer 5%; Hazardous Duty 2.5%; Motorcycle 5%.
• Longevity: Step increases at 7–10 years (2%), 10–15 years (3%), 15–20 years (4%).
• The department offers a generous wage/benefits package along with these premium pays.
