About the Role Plumber II at Abilene Christian University is responsible for the maintenance, repair, installation, and upkeep of plumbing systems and related appliances. The role supports ACU's Christian mission and requires professing Christian faith. The position involves coordinating with Facilities Management, cross-training, and being on call.
What You'll Do
- Work on all facility plumbing systems including water, sewage, gas, and irrigation systems.
- Plan, coordinate, and develop preventative maintenance programs and supervise other plumbing staff.
- Order materials and supplies; maintain plumbing budget within approved limits.
- Respond quickly to emergencies; coordinate with outside plumbing contractors.
- Inspect fire sprinkler systems; perform preventative maintenance on hot water heaters and other critical plumbing systems.
- Repair and replace parts in faucets, drains, pipes, valves, and other fixtures; maintain inventory; develop cost estimates for remodeling projects.
- Be on call 24 hours a day; complete work orders and written reports daily; collaborate with other trades as needed.
- Follow established university policies and procedures; read and interpret plans and specifications.
What We're Looking For
- High School diploma or GED.
- Clean and neat in appearance; punctual, dependable; honest, responsible; good moral character.
- Must be able to read and speak English.
- Knowledge of hand and power tools; skilled in plumbing, mechanical and construction.
- Able to operate a pipe threader, sewer machine and other related equipment; comfortable with computer use and reading plans and specifications.
- Physical ability to lift, carry, and pull loads in excess of 50 pounds; able to climb ladders and work in varying climate conditions; able to work in a stressful environment.
- Training/Professional Development: Continuing education in plumbing; customer service; basic computer training; safety training.
