About the Role

Syracuse University is seeking a Plumber 'A' to plan and perform a broad range of plumbing work on campus. This role requires on-campus presence at Syracuse, NY to support students, colleagues, and the university's academic environment with safe, reliable plumbing systems.

What You'll Do

  • Follow established PPE procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Drill holes in walls and floors for pipe installation; install pipe hangers and insulate piping.
  • Disconnect/connect electrical leads on hot water tanks and stills for replacement.
  • Follow asbestos, PCB guidelines and established Lock Out Tag Out, Confined Space, and aerial lift procedures.
  • Perform planned layout work; independently estimate materials, costs, time, and personnel requirements.
  • Install and repair showers, bathroom fixtures, laboratory plumbing, sewer, gas, air and vacuum lines; hot and cold-water tanks; sewer, water and sump pumps.
  • Install and maintain air and ground water sprinkler systems; seal joints properly.
  • Perform necessary pool, spa maintenance and testing; maintain and test DI, RO laboratory systems; maintain backflow preventers.
  • Work on ladders or elevated heights as needed; lift up to 50 pounds; push/pull up to 75 pounds.

What We're Looking For

  • Advanced knowledge of the plumbing trade equivalent to completed accredited apprenticeship training.
  • At least two years of additional practical experience.
  • Valid driver’s license; ability to drive both manual and automatic transmissions.
  • Must provide own hand tools (pipe, sink and crescent wrenches, screw drivers, pliers, vice grips, etc.).
  • NSPF CPO certification.
  • Knowledge of DI and RO lab water systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret diagrams/blueprints; ability to troubleshoot and diagnose problems; strong mathematical aptitude for material estimation.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with pool/spa maintenance and testing.
  • Additional experience with backflow preventers and laboratory plumbing systems.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Pay range: $32.365-$35.96 per hour.
