About the Role Railway is seeking a Platform Engineer focused on networking to help build an all-encompassing solution for deployment, service-to-service communication, and zero-downtime operations. This role involves writing eBPF programs, leveraging Linux features for storage management, performance profiling with flamegraphs, and interfacing with our Golang/GRPC stack and Envoy-based routing. It offers high impact and high agency with direct influence on culture, trajectory, and outcomes. What You'll Do
- Write eBPF programs to perform sidecar-less routing
- Take advantage of Linux 5.0/6.0 features for userspace block storage device management
- Utilize flamegraphs to identify performance bottlenecks in our current architecture, and design systems moving forward to remove said bottlenecks
- Write Engineering Requirement Documents to take something from idea, to defined tasks, to implementation, to monitoring it’s success
- Interface with our Golang/GRPC microservice stack as well as our routing layer (Envoy) to make all of the above happen What We're Looking For
- A strong understanding of distributed systems, fault-tolerant, resilient, and scalable services
- Intuition about how long solutions will last (startup life cycles of 12-18 months or 2-3 orders of magnitude)
- Tact to implement solutions, define monitors for error boundaries, and document requirements for when you’re not around
- Great sense of direction and prioritization amid startup ambiguity
- Grit to dive into problems, implement, scale, and replace when needed
- Strong communication skills to articulate ideas, ensure implementation, and collaborate across teams
