Platform Engineer

About the Role We are seeking a Platform Engineer to help design, build, and operate Humanitecs Platform Orchestrator and Portal. You’ll focus on lean resource allocation, secure reuse of running instances, and automated lifecycle management of environments across development, staging, and production. The role balances cost, speed, and security to empower developer teams while preserving governance. What You'll Do

• Design and enforce lean resource allocation by design, ensuring resources are reused where possible and environments are torn down or restarted on schedule.
• Implement and tune horizontal pod autoscaling and namespace scoping to avoid unnecessary costs.
• Automate the creation of ephemeral environments for events such as pull requests, and define automatic teardown on demand.
• Pause non production environments on a schedule, while guaranteeing that stateful services are kept up or can be overridden when needed.
• Provide visibility with the Platform Orchestrator and Portal, answering questions like how many idle resources exist and how to sunset at scale.
• Collaborate with platform and development teams to codify rules that the Platform Orchestrator enforces across the organization.
• Ensure security and governance through RBAC, policy enforcement, and end to end self service for developers.
• Architect deployments across clusters, namespaces and databases, including decisions about Postgres placement, and ensure the rules align with cost and security objectives. What We're Looking For
• Experience in platform engineering or internal developer platforms
• Strong automation and IaC skills with Kubernetes concepts such as namespaces, clusters and autoscaling
• Ability to design and enforce platform rules across teams and environments using a Platform Orchestrator or similar tool
• Experience with cost optimization, resource utilization, and sunset strategies
• Familiarity with database deployments and Postgres in cluster versus managed options
• Understanding of RBAC governance and developer self service portals
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with a customer oriented mindset
