About this role
Job title: Platform Engineer - Environments
About the Role
Join Humanitec to design and operate environments from development to production. You will help developers describe workloads and resources in an environment-agnostic way, dynamically create/update application and infrastructure configurations depending on environment type with every deployment, and enforce standards of configuration and security across all environments.
What You'll Do
- Create and manage environments from development to production, including environment lifecycle and elimination of config drift.
- Dynamically create/update application and infrastructure configs depending on environment type with every deployment.
- Create and manage ephemeral environments for events such as pull requests; prevent interference between team members and automated tests; tear them down on demand.
- From clusters to namespaces and databases, define how resources are created and automatically tear them down on demand.
- Automate environment-level actions: pause environments on a schedule to save costs; centrally update images across your fleet; notify and trigger external systems based on lifecycle events.
- Manage secure access, secrets and values across environments; rely on the Orchestrator’s RBAC capabilities to keep environments safe; integrate with enterprise identity management and existing secrets management solutions.
- Visualize what’s running where: understand what application is running in which environment and what version the application is on; understand dependent resources and share resources within the environment; access deployment history and configuration changes across environments.
What We're Looking For
- Experience building or operating environment orchestration platforms or similar developer-focused infrastructure solutions.
- Familiarity with RBAC, identity management, and secrets management across environments.
- Ability to create ephemeral environments for pull requests and automate their lifecycle, including teardown.
- Strong understanding of resource management across clusters, namespaces, and databases.
- Ability to monitor and visualize deployments, versions, dependencies, and configuration history across environments.
