Job Summary
The Plastic Moulding Officer is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining plastic moulding machines and equipment to produce quality plastic products according to approved specifications. The role involves machine setup, mould installation, production monitoring, quality inspection, troubleshooting, and adherence to safety and production standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate injection moulding and/or other plastic moulding machines safely and efficiently.
- Set up machines according to approved production parameters, including temperature, pressure, speed, cycle time, and cooling time.
- Install, remove, and properly align moulds in accordance with operating procedures.
- Monitor production processes to ensure consistent product quality and output.
- Inspect finished products for defects such as warping, short shots, flash, cracks, burns, discoloration, and dimensional variations.
- Make approved machine adjustments to maintain product quality and production efficiency.
- Carry out routine cleaning, lubrication, and basic preventive maintenance of moulding machines and related equipment.
- Identify machine, mould, and process abnormalities and report major faults to the maintenance or production supervisor.
- Minimize material wastage, machine downtime, and production rejects.
- Ensure correct handling and use of raw materials such as plastic resins, colourants, and additives.
- Maintain accurate production records, including quantities produced, rejected products, machine downtime, and material usage.
- Follow production schedules and meet daily/shift production targets.
- Ensure moulds, machines, tools, and work areas are kept clean and properly organized.
- Follow all company policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and health and safety requirements.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Work closely with Quality Control, Maintenance, Warehouse, and Production teams to resolve production issues.
- Assist with mould changes, machine start-up, shutdown, and product changeovers.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at improving productivity, quality, and reducing waste.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Production Supervisor or Production Manager.
- Good knowledge of plastic moulding processes and machine operation.
- Ability to read and understand production instructions and basic technical drawings.
- Basic knowledge of moulds, mould components, and injection moulding parameters.
- Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to identify common moulding defects and take appropriate corrective action.
- Good attention to detail and quality consciousness.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet production targets.
- Good record-keeping and reporting skills.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Good understanding of workplace health and safety practices.
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, or overtime when required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree, HND, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Polymer/Plastics Technology, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Relevant technical training or certification in plastic processing/moulding is an advantage.
- Previous experience in a plastic manufacturing or injection moulding environment is preferred.
