Job Summary

A Plant Facilities Technician performs advanced maintenance, repair, and inspection tasks across mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and facility infrastructure systems. They work with minimal supervision, follow established procedures, and support and/or coordinate with contractors on complex repairs.

Our plant facility systems are vital to keep our people and customers safe, protecting the environment, and keeping manufacturing operations running without interruption. The plant facilities manager, Senior Facilities Techs, and Facility Techs provide 24/7 coverage to monitor, maintain, and improve the plant facility systems. Plant systems consist of Fire Protection, Chillers, Cooling towers, Air Compressors, Hot water boilers, steam boilers, Electrical switchgear, Solar panels, UPS systems, pumps, valves, motors, etc. Manufacturing is contained in ISO8 clean room and is operated following cGMP regulations. Our assets are maintained using a combination of Insulet resources and outside contractors managed by the Facilities team.

Senior Facilities Technician Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a cGMP compliant environment and operate within FDA guidelines for 21CFR820 manufacturing.
  • Manage pest control contractors and clean room cleaning contractors, verify they are following established procedures.
  • Follow all policies and procedures including safety and quality standards.
  • Monitor systems performance via our BMS software to anticipate issues and respond quickly to alarms and warnings.
  • Diagnose and repair breakdowns, execute preventative maintenance tasks, and manage contractors to meet all standards for safety, quality, and efficiency. These tasks must be completed under minimal supervision.
  • Diagnose and repair HVAC equipment, air compressors, minor electrical issues, piping systems, pumps, motors, etc.
  • Conduct planned inspections of fire extinguishers, eyewash stations, AED stations, spill containment kits, as well as first responder and first aid kits.
  • Miscellaneous duties include, but are not limited to, furniture moves, basic electrical work, basic plumbing work, painting, cleaning, carpentry, waste handling, and keeping facility spaces organized and clean. This is a hands-on role.
  • Document all planned and unplanned work in our maintenance management system.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and corporate representatives to execute preventative maintenance that may impact plant system availability.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and corporate representatives to help resolve complex quality, process, or safety defects.
  • Create standard work procedures for the setup and maintenance of facility assets.

Education and Experience: Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience in a facilities technician or facilities maintenance role
  • Knowledge in: Mechanical Systems, Electrical Theory and Troubleshooting, Plumbing and Piping, Compressed Air Systems, and minor carpentry
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Computer skills and use of MS Office applications.

Preferred Skills and Competencies:

  • At least 3 years of experience in a cGMP manufacturing facility support role
  • Associates degree or higher
  • Massachusetts State License: Electrician, Pipefitter
  • Demonstrated ability to work hands-on and desire to interact with equipment and learn mechanical skills
  • Familiar with BMS software, interpreting data trends, and understanding of control systems (PID control)
  • Familiar with typical sensors on automated equipment including temperature, pressure, flow, etc.
  • Working in a clean room environment
  • Knowledge and experience with post-implementation continuous improvement efforts and methodology
  • Machine shop background

Physical Requirements (if applicable):

  • Required to stand for at least 75% of working time per shift, with walking at least 50% of working time per shift.
  • Required to reach above shoulder frequently and below waist occasionally.
  • Required to push and pull.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs occasionally, 5-20lbs frequently.
  • Ability to work in tight spaces including confined space.

Compensation & Benefits: For U.S.-based positions only, the annual base salary range for this role is $30.07 - $45.10 This position may also be eligible for incentive compensation. We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including:
