Job title: Plant Engineering Manager
About the Role Ball Corporation is seeking a Plant Engineering Manager to oversee the plant engineering function at the Ft. Atkinson facility. The role ensures a safe, compliant, and efficient operation while leading budgeting, project execution, and alignment with corporate engineering standards.
What You'll Do
- Direct and manage the plant engineering function, ensuring a safe and secure work environment and compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Develop, implement, and improve the plant's food safety system and SOPs; coordinate with group engineering on new developments and standardized methods.
- Plan and manage budgets and AFEs for plant projects; prepare reports for the plant manager, department heads, and group engineering.
- Establish and monitor tooling control and change control systems; manage M&R inventories and tooling, and oversee procurement/contractor relationships and bid packages as needed.
- Direct projects related to equipment and building modification/repair; coordinate with the environmental manager to maintain regulatory compliance.
- Monitor utility costs and pursue conservation opportunities; ensure the facility is properly maintained for safety and housekeeping.
- Maintain positive labor relations with the local bargaining unit; interact with state/local agencies to communicate evolving issues.
- May oversee telecommunications environment (phones, wiring, data systems, paging) and related hardware; ensure proper operations and upgrades.
- Implement, review, and maintain SOPs for areas of responsibility; ensure environmental training/compliance and proper documentation; report to EC/EFP/EM as required.
What We're Looking For
- Broad training in a related field usually acquired through college or work-related experience; minimum 4 years of job-related experience.
- Ability to apply intensive and diversified evaluation, selection, and modification of standard plant engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria; ability to handle sensitive/proprietary information.
- Strong negotiation skills with contractors for facilities/buildings maintenance.
- Ability to communicate effectively with the plant manager, department heads, group engineering, and external stakeholders; maintain professional competence and ethical integrity; handle stress in a high-production environment.
- Flexibility to work weekends and overtime/on call as directed by management.
Nice to Have
- Experience preparing bid packages, negotiating contracts, and supervising contractor/vendor work.
- Experience with telecommunications systems and an operating environment spanning multiple plant sites.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations and hazardous waste management would be a plus.
