About the Role

The Plant Controller Manager provides detailed weekly Plant Cost Estimates along with operational efficiency and sales reporting, and oversees all General Ledger duties for the responsible plants. This role supports budgeting, capital projects, processing improvements, and operational analytics while ensuring SOX controls and accurate reporting for production operations.

What You'll Do

  • Prepare weekly Plant Cost Estimates and detailed operational efficiency metrics, plus sales reporting.
  • Prepare monthly reports comparing weekly estimate reports to actual general ledger balances for Plant Operation and Sales.
  • Manage General Ledger duties including journal entries, account reconciliations, variance analysis, and research of variances.
  • Provide accounting support related to Budget, Capital, Processing Improvements, and other operational analytics.
  • Operate a computer with Windows; be proficient in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; quickly learn in-house ERP and/or SAP to compare actual vs expected expenditures.
  • Assist management at plant and corporate levels with the preparation and analysis of weekly, monthly, and quarterly operating reports, statistics, capital, and budget.
  • Prepare weekly financial presentations to upper management on prior week’s results.
  • Track volumes, statistics, and dollars on weekly, monthly, year-to-date, and annual bases; analyze variances from expectations.
  • Manage balance sheet accounts and ensure monthly reconciliations.
  • Analyze large weekly variances and discuss findings with management.
  • Assist in developing product costs for new products and analyze margins for existing products with Sales.
  • Work with plant/operations management to ensure accurate reporting of all production transactions.
  • Maintain all SOX controls and ensure documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Provide analytical research on Agri Stats comparisons and supply operating data monthly.
  • Provide analytical data for Capital Requests and ongoing Capital Project Tracking.
  • Monitor inventory levels and ensure correct inventory valuation; identify LCM opportunities as needed.
  • Monitor and report expenses across all levels to deliver an accurate final monthly income statement.
  • This is a safety-sensitive position.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise Plant Accounting, Clerical, and Salaried staff.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a Business-related major (4-year).
  • 3-5 years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Technical knowledge of SAP is required.
  • Proficiency in reading, analyzing, and interpreting business documents; ability to write reports and present information clearly.
  • Strong mathematical skills (probability, statistics, fractions, percentages, ratios).
  • Sound reasoning abilities: problem definition, data collection, fact establishment, and drawing valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret extensive technical instructions and manage multiple variables.
  • Computer skills: familiarity with email, accounting systems, spreadsheets, and word processing.
  • Willingness to supervise and develop a team.
  • No specific certifications/licenses are required.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Agri Stats or similar industry benchmarks.
