Job title: Planning Manager
About the Role The Planning Manager is the financial architect of our product divisions, blending creative vision with profitable growth. You’ll own end-to-end strategic planning, forecasting, and inventory management to maximize sales, optimize margin, and mitigate inventory risk. This role requires rigorous data analytics, strong OTB mastery, and leadership to guide cross-functional partners toward company targets.
What You'll Do
- Financial Planning Open-to-Buy (OTB) Ownership: Develop and manage pre-season and in-season sales, margin, and inventory plans at category, class, and subclass levels, aligning with top-down goals.
- OTB Management: Own the monthly Open-to-Buy process; identify risks and opportunities and adjust receipt flow or pricing to maximize profitability.
- Margin Optimization: Drive profitability by managing lifecycle pricing, initial markup (IMU), promotional strategies, and markdown cadence to hit GM and GMROI goals.
- In-Season Execution: Monitor weekly, monthly, and seasonal sales performance; optimize in-season chase opportunities, re-orders, and cancellations.
- Inventory Health Turn: Maintain optimal inventory levels; accelerate turns, manage weeks of supply (WOS), and develop exit strategies for slow-moving liability inventory.
- Sleeve/Assortment Architecture: Partner with Buying to build profitable bottom-up assortment aligned with regional demand, trend forecasting, and historical performance.
- Technology Analytics Optimization: Build predictive models, dashboards, and automated reporting structures using BI tools.
- Process Scale: Transition manual planning processes and legacy Excel sheets into scalable, automated workflows to increase efficiency and speed-to-market.
- Market Insights: Conduct competitive market research and whitespace analysis to identify emerging customer demands and structural growth opportunities.
- Cross-Functional Leadership: Mentor and align weekly with the VP, Buying, Design, and Visual Merchandising; manage Associate/Assistant Planners; translate complex financial data for leadership.
What We're Looking For
- Experience: 5–7 years in eCommerce planning and inventory management with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory/management capacity.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Accounting, or related quantitative field.
- Retail Context: Proven track record in a fast-paced environment (Off-Price, Fast-Fashion, or high-volume E-commerce) managing an OTB of $50M+.
- Technical Skills: Advanced Excel (VBA, Power Query, complex nested logic formulas, macros); proficiency with modern planning software/ERPs/BI platforms (NetSuite, Power BI, Looker, Tableau, RDW/SCM software).
- Soft Skills: Analytical Reasoning; Agility/Ownership; Influential Communication.
